Much Ado About Me

Greetings!

My first blog here! Like many others, I was breezing through Level 1 training and found that I got stuck at the About Me page creation. Many ideas popping in my head but I was a little concern on how those would come across. Finally, after my kids lessons and a quick business meeting today, I manage to sat down for an hour, banging my head to the wall - just kidding, and put together an About Me page.

I just want to share how I came out my About Me page, may be can be of help to other WA members. Here are a few considerations/questions I asked myself and how I dealt with them:

1.Who is my audience?

I can go robotic and make my About Me page like a business resume but then decided against it. The niche I choose is within the self-help realm and I do feel I have to be professional to create credibility. However, I decided that I want to connect more with my audience, so I make it a bit informal, i.e. like talking to a new friend that was just introduced by an old buddy.

So, know your audience and niche first and connect with them.

2.Do I share my experience in the niche or just state my qualifications?

I decided to share my experience, as in # 1 above, in an informal conversation. I tried to interesting and build credibility. Anybody can have qualification – paper or otherwise, but I decided how my experience in the same niche would probably interest people more. So I told a brief history of my professional journey while mentioning my qualifications as well.

3.Do I make it all About ME?

I realize people get turn off in a conversation if it all about me and me and me… Yes, it is about me page but I decided to tell the audience what I can do for them and interwoven that into the About Me page.

There, that’s how I written my About Me page. There are variety of ways to write the About Me page and I believe there’s no right or wrong. Just think of how you want your audience to feel after they’re done reading it.

One last note, get someone to read your About Me page after you're done, another pair of eyes can spot mistakes that you miss.

Hope this is useful. Thank you for reading.

Cheers.

Thanks for sharing. I really think that's a good idea to first find out who your audience will most likely be and how to connect with them instead of putting up an impersonal About Me page. BTW yours looks great...keeps a person reading. Looking forward to reading more from you in the future!

I will make my comments at your site, ; O) I am going now>>>...........

I think it's perfect. Exactly the sort of thing that will engage people and retain their interest.

The strange thing about the About Me page is that most people will probably never see it anyway, but if the quality is there when they do it will go a long way and - something I had never previously considered - means they will stay on the site longer which in itself is a bonus.

Well done, it shows what can be done with a little thought and effort.
