Looking for the easy or hard option

Something to consider when deciding on your niche and subsequently your website.

Are you committed to maintaining your website every day with updates to pages, daily blogs, staying up to date with what’s happening in the news and then still never being satisfied with the way it looks, and being prepared for continuous finessing?

Depending on your niche you may find that this is what you need to do to be a viable alternative, to stay up to date, current and ahead of the game. A lot of continuous hard work.

If you are not willing to put in this amount of work, then think carefully about your niche. If you pick something that just needs a no of static pages created, the need for maybe the occasional blog then this will save you a lot of time. But be careful, don’t switch off and imagine you have done your job and now just wait for the money to start rolling in. Would that it was so easy.

If your niche is your passion, then it’s not a problem putting the hours in because you are enjoying doing it. If it’s not then think six months or a year down the line, will you still have the enthusiasm to give it the time it needs?

How many times have you been on a website when the last time something was updated or something new was put on was six months, a year maybe two years ago! Would you give it the time of day or bounce straight away.

Content needs to be fresh, regardless of whether your adding new pages to make the site more interesting or unique, or posts to keep up to date with what is happening in your niche.

Some extra time spent thinking about this at the start will help you in the long run.

Good advice.

I would also say that depending on what people are looking for an older post isn't necessarily a bad post.

First, it still has lots of SEO juice since maybe now many people have linked to it and Google still keeps showing it in the search engines.

Secondly, if its a great post, it's a great post. Unless you are in a niche that changes constantly, it can still provide tremendous value for people.

thanks for the comment Gustavo. Yes I agree with you on that, if you come across a great post and its pertinent to what you are looking for you will still read it no matter how old.
