10,000 steps per day
Can you clock 10,000 steps per day as per doctor's recommendation to stay healthy? In my opinion, quite tough. With modern transportation like subways, automobiles, bikes and the likes it is a real challenge to hit 10,000 steps daily. On my earlier post on https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/kelseylim/blog/tibetan-saying, I advocated 4 practices, one of which was to walk double, the secret to living well and longer. To borrow a quote from management thinker Peter Drucker, "If you can't measure it, you can't improve it". For my family trip in Taiwan last month, I reckoned that there will be plenty of walking about so I decided to buy a fitness watch to clock my steps as well as to monitor my health. I have been eyeing on Fitbit products for some time and I chose to purchase the Fitbit Blaze because it is less expensive than the Surge. It has a colour display and more stylish than the Flex 2 or Charge 2.
Fitbit Blaze
The primary features which I like are the Steps, Heart beat and the Sleep function. With all the walking about during the tour in Taiwan, I managed to clock 54,187 steps over a period of 7 days. Highest was 11,781 steps when trekking in the forest trail and lowest 2,113 steps when visiting various places of interest around the city. However, back home in Singapore, the result was rather poor on average 5,070 steps.
Weekly Report
It is interesting to note that I am not getting 6 hours of sleep on average per day. I tend to stay up late to communicate with WA members. LOL. It also tracked my heart beat during resting or sleeping at 61 bpm and fluctuate over a range of 62 to 65 bpm throughout the week. Somehow this was not included in the weekly report. I have yet to find out whether if the report can be customised.
Charging Time
Although the manual claim that the watch could last for 5 days, I found that at best it can only last 4 days. It is also rather cumbersome to charge the watch because firstly you have to push the watch face out from the strap and thereafter place the watch face into a special adapter for charging. Imagine you have another accessory to bring along with you when travelling. Charging is pretty fast, less than 2 hour for full charge.
Well, there are still other features under "Exercise : Run, Bike, Weights, Treadmill Elliptical, workout" which I have yet to explore. Will definitely give you further updates on these in about a month time. On the whole I give this fitness watch a 7.5 out of 10. I hope those who are contemplating to own a fitness watch will find this post useful.

Does 6 miles of dog walking count?
Thought I would walk the dog (Frank) feeling guilty as he didn't get one yesterday due to rain and working here at WA, it should have been a lot shorter but got lost, as I often do, hence the 6 miles.
Sandra
Based on Mike's estimates your 6 miles is about 6 x 2122 steps equal 12,732 steps. Hey, that's a lot of steps. Of course walking the dog counts. I took my dog out for a long walk once in a while but never 6 miles that long. [Kelsey]
Tai Chi movement is geared towards on the flow of Chi and less on cardiac which is related to the heart. Yes, you are right, any movement is better than no movement. Sitting whole day in front of the computer screen is bad. Once in a while get up and do some stretching is recommended. [Kelsey]
I am not into tracking my food intake yet because I think my weight is still alright. LOL. (Put on some weight during my recent Taiwan trip) However, there is this feature about the daily drinking of water. I am a heavy tea drinker of about 3 to 5 cups of tea. So I am trying to balance by drinking more water instead of tea. My target is 2 Litre. Now is it tracking at 1.25 litre per day on weekly average. [Kelsey]
Sounds like you have more features on your fitbit than my apple watch regarding fitness. Don't be too hard on yourself with number of steps, just try to increase the daily number slowly. Thanks - great post.
Wow, you have an apple watch. It is an expensive toy. It is a smartwatch that duplicates the apple smartphone whereas the Fitbit is designed as a fitness watch. Have you tried using the fitness features? Is it any good?
Before buying the Fitbit Blaze, I was comparing the Asus ZenWatch 2 which is also a smart watch just like the apple watch. I told myself I don't need another smartphone to bug me. Price wise is slightly cheaper than the Blaze. But I settled for Blaze a fitness watch. [Kelsey]
