"The phrase was popularized by cartoonist Robert Crumb back last century, in 1968, with a one-page comic. Since then the phrase has appeared in many places such as on posters, written into song lyrics, as well as, popularized on bumper stickers and tee-shirts."
-- However, one might ask, but what does it actually mean?
The words originated from a song written in 1936 by Blind Boy Fuller and the song was called “Truckin’ My Blues Away;"
Apparently, Crumb was an avid blues fan, so it was surmised that he likely heard the phrase in Fuller’s song and adapted it to his comic strip. His famous underground comic book Zap Comix, depicted a group of fellas strutting across different landscapes while saying the phrase “keep on truckin’” - it was an immediate hit! . . . yes, a Hit Parade, it's been. . .
And that's what history has said, that is where the popular phrase of 'Keep on Truckin' came from a long time ago.
Well, today, in reality, the trucking industry of North America moves food and supplies to all points central. The economy relies on it.
Just to give you an example and some perspective:
According to the US-CFS, (commodity flows survey) trucks transported 71.6% or $10.4 trillion of the $14.5 trillion of the value of all goods shipped within the United States in the year 2017, the latest year for which statistics are available.
Now, isn't that an incredible dollar value?! . . . it's in the Trillions of Dollars, folks!
Thanks to ALL our Truckers!!
Well back to 'Keep on Truckin' --
It appeared to be a pretty simple motivational message as equivalent to ' keep on keepin' on, or get 'er done, or hang in there.'
The phrase grew into a cultural phenomenon and it's in even greater use today, it seems!
