Discipline vs. Commitment: Why I’m Here at WA
Ever have something percolate in your head for a while but you can't quite find the right words to say what you really want to say?
Happens to me a lot.
I'm glad to have found my AI assistant, whom I call Chad.
One of the instructions for bootcamp attendees for this week is: "Share at least one piece of content (your own or another creator’s) within Wealthy Affiliate and across social media."
So, here I am, doing just that. I will share this on social media as well.
Then, this morning, as I was minding my own business, just trying to wake up, as the idea I mentioned above continued to percolate, I happened to see a WA blogpost. I read it.
I was really moved by it. It was in part what I wanted to say and it turned out to be the missing link to complete my thought. It was about discipline.
It got me thinking about how often we confuse discipline with commitment.
Here’s how I see it:
- Discipline comes from the same root as disciple — to follow. A disciple learns from a teacher, follows a path, and stays open to instruction.
- Commitment is what keeps us walking the path, even when it’s not easy.
That’s why I’m here in the WA Bootcamp. I’m a disciple of a proven system and a great teacher. And I’m committed to showing up, even when life gets busy.
I’m not a finished product either.
In fact, in some ways I'm an obsolete product with potential, that needed/needs some (okay, a lot of) renovation.
Like the author of the blogpost I mentioned, I’m a project. Projects don’t end with a bow — they grow, they improve, they get rebuilt.
So here’s my reminder to myself and to anyone else: excuses don’t matter. Discipline and commitment are how we start, keep going, and eventually succeed.

Yes, I definitely need to be more discipline and commit myself more to my business. Thank you for the lovely reminder. Thats the thing when you work primarily from home there are a lot of distractions. You have to commit yourself to your goal and be disciplined enough to succeed.
I watched 2 of the Bootcamp 2025 installments so far. I also created a new website as I followed along with the lessons. But I am really busy now getting user images, a couple of posts and pages uploaded, menu installed, site kit and the other plug-ins activated, and my ability to log in and see my posts. It has taken more than I anticipated to get my new website set up. Every day I do get something done and I should be ready for the 3rd installment but I must admit, my brain is overworked. 😃 MAC.
Yeah, no one said it would be easy. I can relate. You can do it if it's really what you want.
Bob
I can totally relate - I am still working on Week 2 Tasks. Because they are taking a lot of time and I can't neglect my other projects altogether. So, as long as I am moving forward with some projects and keep prioritising the right tasks, i am happy.

Hey Robert,
That is an interesting explanation, and I haven't thought about the difference before. We need both to succeed.
We need both a controlled regulation, and to be dedicated to what we are working on!
Yes, that's saying pretty same thing I was trying to say. Thanks.
Bob
Only in different words. How is your business going for you thus far? Have a great and prosperous Monday further!
To be honest, my "business" is more like a hobby if you look at my income. It's a work in progress. I keep trudging along. How about yours?
Bob
I have no idea what your income is. How is your YouTube channel coming along? Some English teachers are making a killing on there, like Lucy for example.
Business is going okay for us, I guess. One can always do better, right?
I have more than one YouTube channel. I'm probably not consistent enough there. I'm not sure what/how English teachers are making a killing but I'd like to know. I will look into Lucy to see what I can find out. Thanks for the tip.
Bob
Hey Robert,
Lucy gives a plethora of English lessons on pronunciation, grammar, vocabulary, general conversations, etc. and she most likely monetizes through AdSense. But her biggest income comes from her online courses.
She uses links in her video descriptions to take viewers to her website landing page where she offers various courses for hundreds of dollars each, if I remember correctly. So, it is all mostly passive income.
Yeah, I had a quick look yesterday after reading what you wrote. It definitely doesn't hurt that she's a nice looking woman. I like her style. I know how to teach English but I've not figured out a way to do it online in a profitable way. I'm currently enrolled in the bootcamp. Part of my problem is that I feel like I'm spread too thin, trying to go in too many directions.
I know the feeling of being spread too thin. She is gorgeous, but perhaps she uses too much expensive makeup. 😃 You could follow how she monetises by reading her video descriptions. Then, go to her course landing page to see what she offers and how much each course costs. She also has a lot of subscribers and many more views on YouTube.
Yeah, I saw that she has viewers in the millions. I'll check it out more closely. On a different note, now that I'm in the bootcamp, it takes away from my time in the English teacher niche. I'm hoping what I learn and apply in/from the bootcamp will help me in my English teacher niche and others.
Bob
The bootcamp focuses solely on promoting WA itself. However, you could always apply these principles in your other business(es) as well.
That's my plan and the only reason I'm doing, although, promoting WA was my original intent and it is something I want to do anyway.
Me too, I have been planning to do this but haven't had the time yet.
