Don't Be Afraid to Ask for the Sale!
I published a new blog post yesterday, and once again I was overly ambitious, thinking that the post would only take a couple of hours. I had also planned to edit my novel, make a few new pins, work on a copywriting project...well, you can guess how that went!
But slow and steady wins the race, right?
Be Prepared!
Looking back at some posts from last year, I'm happy with how much I've progressed. I still take an intuitive approach to my writing, but at least now I have an end goal in mind of what I want my readers to learn.
I've also been using Jaaxy to research a few potential keywords ahead of time, which has been helpful, and deciding which main product I'm going to promote before writing the article.
Previously, I would write about whatever suited my fancy. Then I'd go on Amazon to find what products might align with what I was describing. It was a very haphazard approach, and it's not surprising I didn't make too many sales!
Focus and Consistency
To combat overwhelm, I've decided to focus on promoting one main company this month. This will also create a more consistent experience for my readers.
Additionally, this particular company pays one of the highest commission rates (40%) of nearly all the companies I've been accepted to so far, plus all of their products are over $100, so it's a win-win!
Sales 101
Finally, I've started being more direct in my call-to-action. Instead of hyperlinking to the product and hoping my readers will click on it, I use phrases like "click here" or "check out" and more persuasive language. I've realized if I'm offering something valuable to my readers, I shouldn't be timid about it!
At the same time, I know I have to be patient. In my niche (personal development), people are usually looking for information first and may not be ready to buy right away. You have to build a relationship with them over time. But from my own experience, once I've grown to trust and value a particular writer, I'll be all too happy to support them with my wallet!

Kate I have a unique problem. I sell a tutorial service.
The sale is ok, I guess, but my real concern is the follow through on my part. Will my new client learn this skill, etc.?
Thanks for your post, Kate!

Interesting! I have tutored and taught for several years now. I should also look into selling these types of services given my education background. You're right, though, it does bring up some tricky issues. And thanks for commenting!
