WA Affiliate Bootcamp - R&D - Investigating The Website Silo Technique
In addition to Kyle's guidance on building a solid future-thinking framework for our website content, I have spent the last day reading up on and implementing Silos (Optimised Website Information Structure) on a "development version" of my site.
In essence this means that I have:
1. I defined and created "Silo" Landing Pages based on my site's keyword
For example:
Site Keyword is Jellybeans
Silo Landing Pages would be: Red Jelly Beans, Yellow Jelly Beans, Green Jelly Beans etc
2. I created and setup categories to ensure that posts are nested correctly under each Silo Landing Page and show up properly in the URL.
This included redirecting the normal category/archive pages to the related silo landing pages.
The desired effect is: domain.com/yellow-jellybeans/what-is-a-yellow-jellybean
This also included the use of a plugin called WPSilo. Learn more and download the plugin here: http://wpsilos.com/
3. I then design a silo landing page template to include:
a header with silo description, 2 sticky post, related posts and an opt-in to a relevant lead magnet (e.g. best online stores to buy jellybeans)
4. I finally customised the blog post page to add navigation to the sidebar that relates only to the current silo.
For example:
Navigation
- Silo Homepage (e.g. Yellow Jellybeans)
Recent Posts
- Yellow Jellybeans Post 1
- Yellow Jellybeans Post 2
- Yellow Jellybeans Post 3
- Yellow Jellybeans Post 4
The sidebar also includes the same opt-in to a relevant lead magnet (e.g. best online stores to buy jellybeans) from step 3.
Depending on your geek level (mine is medium :-), this may or may not make sense.
Please do not hesitate to ask any questions that you have if this post has interested you and I will try and answer you as best as I can.
The overall idea of all this is too ensure that my niche blog is structured for user experience and SEO.
I plan to make a tutorial on all this as soon as I can, but you can read more on the techniques and methodology that I used via the following links.

The "How to Silo Your Blog for Better SEO" isn't found on that website any longer. I did find numerous articles by the author of SEO for Dummies: https://www.bruceclay.com/ search for silo
