Day 1 Down!
Today's blog will be quite short as I am extremely tired but super happy! I had a little bit of trouble yesterday trying to get into wordpress express to actually edit and publish content on my website. I figured it wouldn't hurt to start over from scratch so I deleted it and started another website and Presto! it was working just fine.
I was able to finish through Day 3 and got very accustomed to the wordpress interface. The only thing that I am not unsure about is the niche that I've chosen. Video gaming is already not super popular and the game that I was planning on doing content on isn't as popular as something like World of Warcraft. I am thinking about starting over with my focus on health and exercise as my niche as it's something I value greatly and I think it would be very enjoyable to write about and show my progress to others.
Tomorrow I have almost all day to work on things so I hope I can make some really good progress!

Great start Ian.. Wish you all the best..Maybe the video gaming niche is not so bad as you can find quite a few, quite popular exact match, low competition phrases to write on..:) I am no expert and am just going by a quick search using the google external keyword tool search.. To success

Hi Ian, awesome to hear about your accomplishments and to see that you are working through your initial training here at WA. Sometimes starting over when you run into a bump in the road is a good thing. In this case you just started over with your website and were able to get passed the issues you were having.
Regarding your niche, the "Video Game" industry is popular, as is EVERY niche out there. You will find competition in every single niche possible. This is why you work to find keywords and sub-niches that have less competition. There are unlimited variations of keywords that get traffic out there and you have the tools to find them at your fingertips. There are millions of different sub-niches in the video game industry. Just remember to be specific with your content and website. Build your business for a specific audience, not a broad one.
Great to have you here at WA!
Thanks for the response. I just spent a few hours learning about finding niches, keywords/keyphrases, and such so I have a better idea of the process now. I already have some ideas for niches I want to look into and I think I might have found a pretty good keyphrase for one of them that only has 10 results! Granted, the traffic doesn't seem to be too high but I'm still pretty happy that I've kinda got the steps down involved in finding good keywords and that there's a possibility of making some money from it in the future.
After going back over everything, I see I was wrong in saying that the video game industry isn't popular as I know it is. I guess my apprehension stems from not really knowing what content I can provide that isn't already out there.
I guess I can elaborate on my idea and maybe get some feedback. The game that I want to focus on right now is "Dota 2". It's being developed by Valve, the makers of Steam, and already has a big following. It's still in the beta but its predecessor was really popular and there is a growing community getting behind the game. I want to create a website that basically has a "guide" for every hero that you can play in the game as right now, I can only find guides scattered around and some of them are just plain bad. My goal for the website is to be central hub for hero guides (hopefully that makes sense).
It feels like it's pretty specific to me but I'm not quite sure! I'm really not expecting to make money out of it either but it's something that I really haven't seen and since I now have the tools available to me, would like to create! Never know what might happen with it.
