Google Web Alerts
Are you set up with Google? Do you have a gmail account, and a G+? I went about investigating the available features and settings. I love that "Google Alerts" is giving me the heads up by email.
I selected keywords that feed my niche. I wanted to be alert to news in the field. I added my website to the list of things I wanted to be notified of as well. Today I made a tiny correction to a spelling error on one of my pages, I did the update, and went on my merry way.
Some hours later I get an email update alerting me to activity on the world wide web regarding my website. This I like.
Some of my keywords in the function return very odd unrelated information. For example, the keyword "hiking in Ontario" I get any news about gas prices, or taxes, or fees of any sort that someone is "Hiking in Ontario" And for some of my merchant affiliates, I get stock market stats, I don't mind, I like watching the stock market, but I certainly did not expect that to be part of this feature. Just as I was thinking this was a useless function that was further cluttering up my inbox, I get a gem that reminds me to keep it.

Alerts are great! I signed up for three different keywords and I get alerts several times a day. They give me lots of ideas for posts and even tweets. Thanks for sharing. Heather :)
