Shopping can be difficult and confusing. Sometimes you head to a department store with an idea in mind, but once you get there you have no idea where to start. There are so many different styles, cuts, sizes, colors and brands that you may feel overwhelmed. Having an idea of what looks good on you will make choosing good clothes much easier.

what shape are you?

When choosing the types of clothes that suit you best, it's important to take your general body shape into account.

There are ( 06 ) category types:

  • The rectangle body shape is common in both men and women. People with this body shape are typically tall and thin. This type is defined by hips and shoulders that are roughly equal widths and a lack of curves. For women, a skinnier variation of this shape is sometimes also called the lean column.
  • The inverted triangle is another shape often found in both men and women. People with this shape have very broad shoulders that are significantly wider compared to their rather narrow hips. Women with this body type also tend to have larger breast. This is sometimes considered the ideal shape for men, as it is a common body shape for muscular athletes. However persons with this shape stand a greater chance of Heart Attacks.Hhowever lifestyles play an even more critical role.
  • The apple is another body shape common to both men and women. People with this shape have a greater tendency to be overweight and carry extra pounds at or above their waists. Sometimes this body shape is also called the triangle in men.
  • The pear shape is usually used to describe a female body type with a lower body that is wider than the waist and upper torso. This shape is also sometimes called the triangle. A good rule of thumb when figuring out whether fashion advice is talking about an apple or a pear shape, when saying "triangle" is to check which gender the article is targeting.
  • People with hourglass figures are almost always women. This shape is characterized by equal width of the shoulders and hips combined with a well-defined waistline.
  • The trapezoid is also known as the "average" body shape for me. This describes a torso that tapers to slightly thinner hips.

Fashion advice related to body shape.

  • Rectangle – Women with this body type should generally wear clothing that creates the illusion of curves, such as low waist paints, A-line skirts, and drappey tops. They should also avoid boxy jackets, straight vertical lines, and noticeable waistbands.
  • Men with this body shape can try creating a bulkier silhouette through pleated trousers, boxy outerwear, and layered looks. Horizontal stripes and structured tailoring around your upper torso will also create the illusion of wider shoulders. Avoid baggy or rectangular styles.
  • Inverted triangle – Women with this body type may want to emphasize their hips by creating the illusion of a wider lower body through wide belts, patterned bottoms, and straight or A-line skirts. They may also lower the emphasize of their upper body by avoiding bulky sleeves, shoulder pads, patterns, and embellishments on the upper torso. Men can look more proportional by wearing horizontal stripes at the torso and straight-legged trouser
  • Apple – Both men and women will likely want to use techniques that create the illusion of thinness while also drawing the eye away from the waist. Vertical lines and dark colors tend to look flattering. Keep patterns, accessories, and other flashy elements to either below or above the waist. Pleated and A-line skirts are also great for this body type
  • Pear – People with pair shapes may want to balance out their figures by emphasizing the upper torso. Some good choices are shoulder pads, puffed sleeves, fitted styles, empire line dresses, tapered skirts, and wrap tops. Keep patterns and embellishments near your chest and shoulders and away from your hips. Avoid dropped waistlines, pencil skirts, and cropped pants
  • Hourglass – Most clothing styles fit this body shape, but tighter fits complement it best like maxi dresses, etc.
  • Trapezoid – Most styles also work well with this body type for the best look, consider slightly fitted and tapering clothes.

Whether you're buying clothing off-the-rack or having it tailored, it's best to keep your exact proportions in mind. Use a tape measure and write down the exact numbers. Measurements you should take are the:

  • Circumference of your head for hat sizing.
  • Upper arm for sleeves.
  • Neck, which is more important in men's clothing.
  • Widest or fullest part of your chest or bust.
  • Natural waistline.
  • Hips for women's clothing.
  • Inseam, which is the distance from your groin to the bottom of your ankle

Teresa, is this posts something you want to put on your actual blog if it's about fashion? It seems like a weird topic to discuss here on WA. I just want to make sure you're not getting confused and intended this to be on your own siterubix site.

Feel free to ask me any questions you may have and I will get back to you.
