Getting Out Of My Own Way

Hello WA community. This is my first blog post and I hope it will be the first of many.

I have been a member of WA since September 2018. I am just about to finish the 3rd stage of the affiliate bootcamp training. To be honest I am not as far along as I would like.

My biggest issue is that it takes me a really long time to get started with things. When I eventually do get started I begin bumping into myself a lot; What I mean by this is:

I keep getting in my own way.

All the time.

Stopping the flow.

Halting my chances of success.

When Your Niche Is Not Niche Enough

Currently my niche is pregnancy & motherhood.

I know that I should "niche down". That this is too broad a category if I want a chance of getting any real traffic - yet I find it hard to let go of the fact that I want to write about EVERYTHING in the pregnancy/motherhood area.

I often find myself plowing ahead even though I know I'm going the wrong way. In the back of my mind I know the most direct path to take, yet I just ignore that pertinent information. Sort of like I am addicted to wasting my own time.

Trying To Be Perfect

And then in comes the OCD side of me.

Nothing is good enough, I end up going over and over my work not convinced it is "good enough" to post on a public forum. Even as I write this I have a deep urge to delete delete delete!

You know those films where the character is sitting at a type writer and keeps pulling the paper out, scrunching it up - and throwing it at an already overflowing waste paper basket?

That's me. But instead of paper its blog posts!

Shiny Objects Syndrome

Ahhh all the shiny objects! In 2019 there are sooooo many amazing opportunities for entrepreneurs - I would love to do them all!

Here's just a few;

  • Amazon FBA
  • Merch By Amazon
  • Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP)
  • Dropshipping
  • Print On Demand (POD)
  • Etsy Shops
  • Match Betting
  • Building apps
  • Trade domains
  • Blogging
  • Vlogging

See what I mean - possibilities EVERYWHERE!

Fear Of Missing Out

Why is it, I often wonder, that it is so hard to commit to just one path; Is it a deep-seated FOMO (fear of missing out)?

Yet if one doesn't commit to a path with focus and determination it means that nothing gets done as well as it could be - and the result is lots of half-hearted efforts, here, there and everywhere.

Change On The Horizon

So it seems my biggest obstacle to success is ME.

I'm determined to keep chipping away at this flaw that resides deep inside my self-worth.

No more lack of focus. No more being dazzled by shiny things. An end to the procrastination.

I won't resist change anymore. Every day is a new beginning and another chance to do better than I did yesterday.

I WILL move out of my own way.

Love your post, I definitely had the shiny object syndrome. Now I am working on sticking and staying with one thing until I become successful at it.

Thanks for sharing!

Sounds like a plan!

Try telling yourself better stories.

Turn the fear of missing out around that if you don't stay focused on your business & WA you will miss out, because hopping around leads no where.

What you write now is good enough and you realize it will improve the more you write and get feedback. So its better to get something out there than not.

Pregnancy & motherhood. You could keep motherhood limited to the time of pregnancy and giving birth. That narrows the focus. If you have other ideas that seem outside of the niche you could still write them and save them for a time when you might be able to add the additional niche that's related and expands on your first niche and then you will have content ready to go, but always put your primary focus on your first niche or at least that's my opinion.

:-)

To Your Success!

Mel

Hello Mel, this is the first time I have put myself out there so my first real feedback - thank you for that - I needed it!

Your most welcome. You can certainly do this.

Have a great week!

Mel
