If I review a video game, can I legally use the official release pics without getting shut down?

If it has a copyright you have to have permission. Use your own pictures or look for pictures in the public domain. Depending on what you need you are going to need to do some searching. Try Search for PictureBay , Stock photos, Smithsonian, NASA Even public domain photos may have some restrictions.

you can use "free copyright Pics" but not the one from the official release I have tried this before and my friend who is a copyrights lawyer says "unless you get written consent to use material that shall be used only for promotion usage under licence from the owner of said material" then you are in breach of copyright law. so he advised me to use "free copyright pictures" which you can get freely from the internet to use as material for reviews you can also add a link to the site where the review is being promoted without breaching copyright. hope this has answered you question here is a site you might like to use.

hope it helps.

Thanks for the info, now I'm almost certain it would fall under fair use.

Hey!

Unfortunately that's a severe gray area. Even if you are using the pic for a "review," the truth is you are redistributing a copyrighted image, regardless of the purpose or intention.

Safest route is to always ask first.

Here's a great link to the subject:
