Coaching the Coach
Hey folks,
I hope you are having an awesomely productive and enjoyable day! As many of you know, I joined Wealthy Affiliate just over 2 months ago (8/15/2016). Since I joined this inspiring community I have accomplished the following:
- Ranked within the top 50 (39 as of today)
- 3,117 Wealthy Affiliate followers (as of this moment)
- Earned 33 community credits
- Earned 2 referral credits
- Asked 36 questions (using the community question platform)
- Written a blog post almost every day (I think I missed a few days in the beginning)
- Written and responded to 40-50 community messages
- Researched niche markets and key words extensively
- Built 2 websites/blogs within the WA community
- Made $6,000+ in online income (not from WA - from my coaching practice)
- Joined 5 other online business communities (Click Funnels, Beach Body, Isagenix, Juice Plus & MOBE)
- Met tons of lovely people
- Completed most of the WA trainings and about half of the Affiliate Bootcamp
I can only assume that it is the accomplishments listed above that causes members to ask me for guidance, support and even occasionally to mentor them. I am not sharing these 'stats' or whatever you want to call them to impress you or prop myself up in any way. I am sharing them to give you a background on the point I am leading up to.
While I have done all of the above (not even really sure how) I have also:
- Felt like quitting at least one time (often times many more) each day
- Gotten myself so blocked by my perfectionist attitude that I only just built my main site after procrastinating and doing 'busy work' for over 2 months
- Never added an affiliate link to any of my websites/blogs until yesterday, even though I have had a strong online presence (and substantial traffic) for 6 years
- Discovered that, if I give into it, my fear can lull me into a place of acceptance (accepting that I can't build a website, acceptance that I don't like the idea of affiliate marketing, etc.)
- Gotten so excited about the IDEA of my many passions being my niche focus that I didn't even fully choose a niche until this week
- Felt less intelligent, capable and talented than anyone who has made even a single affiliate sale
- Felt like a fraud just for wanting to sell beneficial programs and products to people who are actively seeking those programs and products
I am also not sharing these personal revelations to make you feel sorry for me, or to cause you to think I am a complete and total failure, lol. Honestly, I am just sharing. For some reason, it seems like other community members are facing similar fears, challenges and also excitements at the same time I am. By sharing our experiences, we are able to feel less isolated in our entrepreneur's journey and develop a sense of comradery.
While participating in the ebb and flow of live chat the other day, I mentioned that I wish I had signed up through an individual who was a motivated and active mentor. Many people in the community responded saying I should be mentoring them. A few people even followed up asking me to mentor them which honestly made me laugh out loud. If someone needs support with my areas of strength, I am more than willing to provide support but there are so many areas of affiliate marketing that I have no personal experience with.
If someone is brand new to this community, has little or no experience with online marketing, website designing, blogging, or earning an income online, of course I could potentially mentor them. At the same time, even a coach or mentor needs a coach or mentor. In fact, when one begins to experience success, it is important to have at least some guidance from someone who has already been down a similar path.
I can't remember who said it but I am sure it has been said so many times it doesn't really matter anymore. Successful people surround themselves with other successful people. In trying to find the original quote I was thinking of, I found the following quotes that support what I am speaking to today:
"Whatever you do in life, surround yourself with smart people who'll argue with you." - John Wooden
"Surround yourself with only people who are going to lift you higher." - Oprah Winfrey
"You can't build any kind of organization if you're not going to surround yourself with people who have experience and skill base beyond your own." - Howard Schultz

Joy, this is an outstanding and quite insightful post. It's a solid "state of affairs" perspective and I agree completely.
If there is anything I can do to help you, please PM me. I'll do whatever I can to assist and perhaps guide you.
Also, I'm on a huge project where I'm going to launch a website to help coaches. It will help you market your business and optimize productivity and content. Just thought you might like to know. :-)
Thank you for this true heartfelt blog post JoyNelson!
It truly hits home with me. Although I have not accomplished as much as you have...lol
