5 Books I Recommend For Entrepreneurs

I've become a massive fan of reading books ever since I've wanted to be an entrepreneur. I hold myself accountable to reading everyday, even if it's just 10 minutes. It's pretty amazing how much you can learn from the world's greatest minds in such little time!

I want to share some with you that have been life changing for me as an entrepreneur. I'd also love to hear some of your suggestions as I'm sure many of us are on the lookout for more ideas.

Here are my top 5 and why:

The One Thing by Gary Keller

I am a very scatterbrained person sometimes. Too many ideas can distract us and lead us astray. We can end up starting projects but not finishing them, maybe because we get bored or a new idea comes along which lights that spark in us again.

What this book taught me was that it's not meant to be that way. That to get everything you want out of life (and business), what you really need to do is FOCUS. Better yet, focus on ONE THING. Gary Keller explains it like a domino effect... you're looking for that one big domino that will knock over all the other dominos in every problem you come across.

He totally debunks the effectiveness of multi-tasking and shows exactly how to schedule your day to get the most done. I always re-read this book when I'm not getting the results I want.

You won't regret reading this!

The 7 Habits Of Highly Effective People by Stephen Covey

I don't only recommend this book to entrepreneurs, I recommend it to everyone I know. I think it's safe to say this is my favourite book of all time - so far. If you haven't read it, you must! It's a book that will undoubtably change your life for the better.

The 7 Habits are principles of health, relationships and business. They're universal and are applicable to every area of life. If you train yourself to live by them, it opens up a world of endless possibility.

It teaches you how to focus on what you can control, and leave the rest. How to set goals and manage your time effectively. How to repair broken relationships and improve already great ones. It teaches you how to listen empathetically, how to work effectively with other people and finally how to renew your energy for everyday life.

It's truly a masterpiece, go get it!

The Go-Giver by Bob Burg & John David Mann

This is a beautiful novel about a "go-getter" salesman and his mentor. Whilst it is a fictional novel, it has an important message about how to run an amazing business.

The salesman in the book is shocked when this wealthy and famous businessman so willingly offers to mentor him and share all of his secrets at no cost. That is the very thing the book teaches - if you're willing to 'give' first then you will receive more than if you're just out to 'get' first.

Whenever I apply this principle, I always seem to receive back more than what I willingly gave away - whether that is knowledge, money, ideas, etc.

It's a fantastic book that every business owner should read!

The Magic Of Thinking Big by David Schwartz

This is a book I try to remember often! Whenever I'm procrastinating on my work, the principles in this book remind me of why that is - because I'm not thinking big enough. I'm not setting my goals high enough, therefore I don't feel motivated to push through the inevitable struggles.

Unfortunately a lot of us aren't brought up to think this way - sometimes it's even looked down upon by some people! This book will break the habit of thinking small and 'safe' and give you permission to work towards your biggest dreams.

If you set goals big and exciting enough, you will do the work that is needed to reach them. If you need help with doing this, as I do, go get this book!

The Millionaire Fastlane by MJ DeMarco

Last but not least! This book was one of the first I read about entrepreneurship. The somewhat cheesy title did put me off initially, but I thank my lucky stars it didn't stop me reading it! This book is phenomenal!

Everything that you need to know about growing a successful business, which solves important problems and makes you wealthy is laid out in this book. MJ also crushes all of the other 'safe' financial roots in pretty spectacular fashion.

It's a fascinating read and shines a spotlight on a lot of lies that society has unfortunately brought us up on. I thank the universe for this book, I think it's the reason I'm even here building my own business at all.

I'm sure you'll love it. Thank you MJ!

I hope that you got some value out of this article. Books can truly change your life when you find the right ones, let me know if you go and buy/read any of these - and of course let me know what awesome books you're reading!

Thanks for reading :)

Josh, thanks for the recommendations. The One Thing is an amazing book, I really liked it, and will probably read again soon. The 7 Habits Of Highly Effective People is another great recommendation, I read it a couple of times already. Since I am staring reading for entrepreneurs, I will put your other three books in my list.
A couple of other books that I loved are Managing Oneself by Peter F. Drucker, it's very short book but with a lot of substance. How to Win Friend and Influence People, is another great pick, this book was written in the 30s, and it has been updated a couple of times. It basically makes you better at dealing with people.

Thanks for the recommendations...and enjoy reading...

Hey, I'm glad you enjoyed the article! I totally agree about the books you mentioned, I recently got Managing Oneself and loved it! I read How To Win Friends a couple of years ago - I think it's due a re-read :)

Thank you for checking out my post, all the best!
Josh

Hey Josh, I am always reading books, so this month I had $75 in eBucks, so I was able to buy with this money the books recommended here by you and Kyle.
Thanks a lot!

That's awesome! So pleased to hear the article helped! :)

Definitely some good reads there Joshua. I would add to that list anything by Malcolm Gladwell and Crossing the Chasm by Geoffery A. Moore.

Seth Godin has some good ideas once in awhile as well, although I have found his latest books don't have quite the idea takeaways as his first publications.

Thanks so much Kyle! Glad you enjoyed it :)

Yes, I love Outliers by Malcolm Gladwell! I also need to get round to reading Blink.
I've heard Crossing The Chasm is essential reading, it's on my list!

Thanks for your recommendations!

Thanks for the reading suggestions! The more we read up and learn about being an entrepreneur opens up a wider door to success! Like the saying...you are what you eat...you are what you read!!

No problem! :) And yes, I totally agree. Warren Buffet famously said "the more you learn, the more you learn" and what better place than from books written by inspiring and successful people!
