First month at WA

Hi guys!

I am writing this blog post to share my experience after one month of joining WA.

I have a background in IT consuting and Information Security and I have also build a couple of simple web sites earlier. I moved abroad (away from Finland) about 6 months ago and was enjoying life, surfing, playing guitar, that kind of stuff. After a while I started feeling like it would be a good idea to start doing some work online.

I looked into different opportunities and started doing some translation work. That kind of work is ok, but not something I want to do full time. I thought I should probably get back into developing websites. Then I found out about Wealthy Affiliate and thought I'll try it out. My goals were (and still are):

  • Learn more about website development: how to make nice looking, fast, good looking websites with interesting content. Also, how to do SEO and market my site to get visitors.
  • Create a website that I can be proud of and generate some income from it.
  • Have and interesting project to work with. Something that I like doing.

My progress so far

I have created a website with 7 articles that have content. I'm quite happy with the articles. I have also joined Amazon Affiliate Program and added some affiliate links.

My niche

My niche is Yerba Mate Tea. If you don't know what that is, go to my website and find out!

You can start from this article: https://yerbamateculture.com/what-is-yerba-mate-tea/

I chose this niche because I love to drink Yerba Mate Tea and I think it's an interesting topic to write about.

So far the only traffic I get is through WA. People who have been commenting or reviewing my site/posts. All of my articles are not yet even indexed by Google so I am not getting any traffic through search engines. I guess it will take a lot more effort to get ranked in the top 5-10 for the keywords that I have chosen...

My plans and goals in the future

My plan is to keep on following the WA training and learning more and developing my website further. The main things to develop are:

  • Add more content and some product reviews
  • Enhance the visual side of my website. So far this has not been addressed in detail in the WA training. At least I need to create a logo and tweak the menus, side bars and footer.

My goals in the near future are:

  • Get traffic through search engines and by marketing my website. This area seems to be very covered in the WA training.
  • Get at least a some people to buy products through my Amazon Affiliate links.

I don't want plan too far ahead but prefer to focus more on the present. However, some long term goals could be:

  • Keep on learning about website development and e-marketing.
  • Create more interesting websites with better visuals and interesting content.
  • Earn a sufficient amount of income through my websites so that I can do less translation work and focus more on what I'm really interested in.

I hope you enjoyed reading my first blog post about my first month at WA! Please feel free to post comments and questions related to this blog post or my website.

Cheers,

Joonas
