How To Keep Your Focus To Achieve Your Goals

Are you having trouble concentrating?

When you sit down to write content for your blog or website are you thinking of every word as a huge effort and challenge?

You may be forcing yourself to focus and suffer through creating content, and you are miserable doing so simply because your focus is off. More, it's 'misplaced'.

When we focus in one thing intently it can give us a huge headache. Why does that happen? Because the brain isn't designed to work on a sequential line by line system.

Our brains are processing so much data at any given time that to try and box it into wearing blinders like a horse just doesn't work.

Right now, I'm writing this while I'm sitting outside. The sun is setting. I hear birds chirping and cars going by. It was hot today so a fan is blowing on me. Bugs are flying around, and my son is doing abc's on his toddler tablet.

BUT-- In my head I am not staring at my laptop screen at all.. I'm actually touch typing this while i stare into the yard pretending I am staring at you. Not all of you at once of course! That would be scary.

I'm staring at the imaginary person I'm trying to help and instruct. I'm still not staring at my screen, and as you can imagine i may have to correct a few spelling mistakes when i'm done with my thought.

You see I'm letting the brain do what it wants to do, not what i'm forcing it to do. I'm talking to you, not by staring into a bright laptop screen that's attracting bugs at dusk but by using my imagination to talk to a real live human being that is listening to me tell my story.

The brain is running at a comfortable processor speed because of this, and with this method the 'distractions' have actually become part of the story. Just like real life. Because none of our daily distractions bother us until we need to actually try to 'focus' on something. That's when we get into trouble.

Have any of you experimented or practiced meditation?

The best meditation isn't focused. Its letting the mind relax, and letting it handle the distractions... and you find yourself centered in the midst of all the life going on around you and there is a peace in eye of the storm.

You've just experienced a moment of true 'zen'.

Try this for your next writing. Don't talk to the screen, or yourself. Don't shut yourself away. But let the chaos of the day and a little imagination run its processes into creative thought.

You may find you've written your best yet.

Be good, Be Blessed.
