The Chumlins - A Kid's Tale
This little creature is the Quokka, native to Australia. The cartoonish grin inspired a short story I wrote for my daughter today. It made her smile, and she suggested I share it with others:
THE CHUMLINS
Deep within a hole on a big grassy hill
Under a long bridge that keeps getting thinner
A family of Chumlins escaped the night’s chill
To get ready for a big Chumlin dinner
Their feast for the night was beans and mixed greens
All grown with love by little Chumlin Teens
Who care for their gardens in striped yellow jeans
Using only their hands, without help from machines
The family all gathers 'round a big wooden table
Carved by descendants of an ancient Chumlin fable
With special utensils they eat with their feet
Chomping on everything savory, sour, and sweet
Though their customs are odd, they’re quite friendly creatures
A big whiskery smile is the best of their features
They smell like flowers and have fur on their hide
If you roam near their home they may invite you inside
And if you fit in their hole you’ll get a warm Chumlin greeting
They spin on their heads with loud Chumlin drums beating
Holding hands in a circle they share why they’re grateful
Reminding each other to be nice and to never be hateful
When you’re with family try to remember the same
Some of them even helped give you your name
Be thankful for your family and know that they care
Happy smiles on faces keep everyone’s spirits as light as air

I absolutely love this. I read it to my kiddos. My girls giggled happily through it. Thank you so much for this share
Thank you for the positive feedback! Knowing that I made someone else's kids giggle is a wonderful feeling. I appreciate your effort in taking time to read it to them. Avid readers are created on parents' laps. :-)
Reading is the only thing that links people now to who people were then. It's my favorite past time. So it was really fun to find something to share with the kids while working

I was recently asked to come into a Chumlin home. All good til dinner time, I tried but was not able to eat with my feet. :)
Think it's time for "The Chumlins II".
Cheers,
Mark
Don't get them wet and don't feed them after midnight.
