10 Years in Google Prison

Back in 2002, when I was beginning to think about getting into Internet Marketing, I discovered Google Adsense and put some of their ads on my website. I saw a couple of ad postings that looked interesting and clicked on them, not even thinking that I was doing anything wrong. Then Google dropped the bomb. I got a notification that my account had been cancelled and that I could no longer use AdSense. Go directly to Jail - Do not pass GO!

That was 10 years ago. In 2005 I decided to use AdWords to advertise a blog that I was doing called "A Drawing Per Day". I had a low budget of $30 a month and my daily views went from zero to as high as 400 per day, pretty quickly. I did this for about six months and then stopped the campaign and to my surprise the daily clicks have stayed up for several years now.

In about 2008, (still in jail), I sent Google a message to see if I could get reinstated and the answer came back "No"! It is now 2013 and I hesitate to think about how much AdSense revenue I might have made on my dozen or so blogs and websites. I have often wondered if anyone else had had a similar experience and I'm sure the answer is yes.

Sadness prevails - maybe in another 10 years I'll be up for probation.....

Here's holding thumbs that you get probation soon! :-)

Thanks Theos and I really do appreciate your weekly visits.....(the old file in the cake thing) :)

You are most welcome! Hope the file is sharp enough. :>)

Feeling very sorry for you,Jonart of what happen to you. Honestly I just applied Google AdSense a week ago...now thinking not to continue it. Anyway thanks for sharing and wish you good luck in everything!

Oh, thanks Divine23: You should use it...it's a good way to make a little extra money. I don't even feel bad about it anymore. Just be careful with it.

Unbelievable, but for you sadly true. Thanks for the heads up, and by the way, love the picture,
Have a great day
Hudson.

Thanks Hudson: hope you have a great week!

Thanks for the heads up Labman :)

That is a shame. Have you tried phoning Google to talk to a live person about this? I have a few phone numbers from when I was paying for a small placement ad. Guess not the same as Adsense??? but maybe could help.

Thanks Kathy: Sure, if you could PM me with those numbers, that would be great. Thanks for looking at the blog and have a great week!

Starter members don't have access to the PM system. You'll need to make other arrangements to share those numbers.

Kathyjf1530: are you on FaceBook? If you are you could PM me there. My FB name is johnnormanstewart.

That's ridiculous man. Google needs to be a little more accurate with their punishment policy. At least you can add some affiliate adds. I personally don't wanna rely on something that has that much power anyways. If you found out how their employees get treated as compared to how you got treated in this sense. You'd be pretty hot.

Yes, I've heard that everyone wants to work there. If I were younger I would want to work there :) We are talking Mega-Power here, but maybe there is some light at the end of the tunnel....

I had my adsense account closed with nearly £500 in it about a year ago. When I was banned they gave no reason and I don't have a clue. I didn't click on the ads, I have the privacy policy on my sites, all the content was unique...

Anyway - If you've been sent to jail by Google its for life.

You could form a company and apply for a new one. I also think you can apply for one for your spouse or partner - don't quote me on that, or perhaps a brother or sister might help you for a small cut!

Thanks PennyJMay: Appreciate your sharing your experience. Oh no, I'm a lifer......:)

Oh I feel your pain. One of the gurus I followed for a while kept talking about doing this so I did...with no training. Got banned cuz it was considered spam. In good faith I'm keeping my gmail and Google + in the hopes that I get back in their good books. But I fear that won't happen after reading your blog. So, creative in other ways I must be!

I like your "So, creative in other ways I must be" statement. There is definitely a scary side to the Web....:) Thanks for reading the post.

I never made that mistake but understand both sides of the issue. I would think that if you actually tried to contact them by phone (its hard but doable) sometimes you make more progress with them than e-mail.
I would think that explaining that you were a new user back when you created your indiscretion and explained that you now know what you did wrong and know not to do that. You might make some inroads into the Adsense network.
Treating Google as a partner and not an adversary goes a long way toward soothing past indiscretions. Voice to voice or Face to Face on Google+ is a good way to go if you can contact them.

Appreciate the advice Labman, I will definitely try that soon.

Unfortunately for marketers Google has changed their algorithms continuously. It's almost as if they are bent on destroying the IM business. SEO is not what it used to be. We have to be more specific, more diverse and more original than ever. We have all been slapped like this at one time or another. I am sorry you have had to deal with this.

I know a couple high income marketers whose income on some sights went from thousands of dollars a month to zero overnight when Google made specific changes.

Love the post. Great job!

Wow! That has to hurt. Thanks for looking at the post, TJ, and have a great week!
