Why Procrastinators Procrastinate

(If you're too lazy to read my post, go down to the end to grab a link to an amazing post on procrastination and how to beat it)

After a relatively successful online business, I had a baby and decided I wanted to just be a mom.

Then I decided my son was in daycare, our new house was organized... and I wanted, not needed (a luxury most cannot afford) to get back to work.

I'd sit down and make grand plans!

Goal 1: Start blog on a passion project
Goal 2: Make lots of money

However, I'd never reach goal 1. I'd sit around thinking about great ideas but then I'd realize I needed to refresh my knowledge on SEO.

This would take my attention for a week or two and then I'd be ready to start on my blog...

Only, do I really even know what good design is anymore?

So, I'd sit down and read the latest news and insights into what makes design remarkable in 2017/2018.

OK! I've made loads of money online. I can do it again. I'll start my blog today. Except, my topic, which is a passion and life-long learning... needs some attention. I haven't checked up on the latest news, read the latest clinical studies, listened to my favourite authors.

This takes time.

I'll focus on this for a few weeks so that when I start I can be assured to have a great foundation for my blog.

And then I'd start my blog.

But, I wouldn't.

That's when I was doing research on how best to post on Pinterest that I found a link to Wealthy Affiliate.

I joined and didn't do anything the first four days.

I then read WaitButWhy's post on procrastination (https://waitbutwhy.com/2013/10/why-procrastinators-procrasti... )

It was as though he had written it for me and suddenly, all of that self doubt and loathing at not getting started made sense. I signed up for premium and started going through the course that same day.

I still battle my instant gratification monkey on a daily basis. I have lost my work ethic. I'm still working my way back up.

WA helps tremendously but the above article has helped me understand the battle that takes place in my brain every single time I start a task.

I feel great. I've done more work in the last week then I've done in a year.

I hope this helps you, if you too, have a distracting monkey taking you away from your work <3

Nice I can't say procrastination is an every day problem but it does exist.

Lucky!

I struggle with procrastination in every part in my life. usually its caused from road blocks which end up making me give up for about a week or so, then i end up struggling to get motivated again. reading this will hopfully get me motivated again!

Let me know if it helps. I've read so many guides on how to beat it but his explanation just made so much sense.

I was laughing my ass off because everything he described was SO me. :)
