Live Chat or Saturday Night Fever

Live Chat or Saturday Night Fever? So can we say whatever we want in live chat? That is definitely the impression I'm receiving. We can argue and make debasing statement toward a person's helpful feedback aimed to be helpful to another member. In any Saturday night bar setting, this might start a bar brawl. I have my boots on. However, you can't just say anything you want in live chat. No matter if it is a forum for discussion, it is set up to be a live chat center for helping others. The setting is still professional. The emphasis is on help. Not forcing your opinion down someone else's throat, forcing them on the defensive of their own personality, or the personality you have accused them of. When 3 or more people jump on any band wagon against one person, that is professional bullying, and that my WA associates is unacceptable professional behavior. If you engage in this behavior, you should mosey on down to the pub. And to accuse anyone of any derogatory behavior in front of live chat is also unacceptable. There is a perfectly acceptable forum for any adverse comments or arguments that need to be had and that is private message. If you find yourself in this situation, you should ask to continue in private message. If the other party refuses, then stop engaging with that member. We are professionals and should act accordingly, in any WA situation. I have been put in this situation in live chat twice recently. I have asked to go to PM, and I have been professionally bullied. This is why I am writing this blog. This is not to complain, but to hopefully shed some light onto what should be professional behavior by all members, including myself. Let's move forward with more awareness of our actions.

I am sorry that you're experiencing this kind of behavior from professional adults.

Louisa B

Again every time I do something that is productive or helpful somebody thinks they have the right to come in and edit my personality and that is absolutely absolutely childish immature and then acceptable whereas would never do that to anyone else in a public forum

be true to yourself and your ideals

Live chat has been cleaned up tremendously in the last several years.

I haven't had the time to spend on Live Chat, unfortunately. Has it gotten ugly in there?
You are correct. That is not acceptable behavior.

Frank

not all of it is ugly, but there is some ugly....from some younger members....the older member and "older" members are awesome....I guess i'm in between.....been having some bad luck lately and can be as outspoken as I am in "real" life. I know the separation between bar life and professional life

Some of the people entering comments in Live Chat would do well to remember this old quote - "It's better to remain silent and let the world think your're a fool, than to open your mouth and erase all doubt."
I'm sorry you're having a tough time. I wish I could help.

Frank

Just wanna make sure Frank that you are my witness to the things that are being said to me on my blog

I would have to find them and read them first.

Jojo, always consider the source of any negative comments. Even if comments seem directed at you, don't let them bother you. You've done stand-up in a bar, so you can appreciate that these WA members aren't throwing beer bottles at your head! Lol
Younger members haven't yet learned many of life's harsher lessons, so they simply do not understand.
To borrow from Shakespeare: "He jests at scars that never felt a wound"
They can not yet understand you, but you can understand them.
