Marketing Confusion

There's this young guy in his early 20 that I was talking to yesterday about my business and what I do. I told him my core business is online marketing, niche marketing, and affiliate marketing. When I explained that I teach people how to make money online so that they can work anywhere anytime they want, he got a confused look on his face. "But marketing is for companies, not for private individuals" he blurted out.

This afternoon I read a comment on the "How do you promote Wealthy Affiliate in person?" post about ditching the "Internet Marketer" title and it made me realize there is a lot of confusion about what marketing really is and who it is for.

When you break it down, eliminate all the mumbo jumbo and take out branch jargon you'll realize that in its simplest form, marketing is nothing more than the way you communicate with your target audience.

So who is it for? Everyone who is selling or promoting something. When you teach others how to make money online, marketing is a big vital chunk of that, both for yourself and for those who you're educating.

The best way to communicate with your target audience is not by trying to sell them something, but by educating them. When you try to sell your product it creates resistance. But when you teach something you spark interest. When they learn something from you, they start to see you as an expert instead of a sales person. Then you no longer have to chase them. They will come to you and ask you what they should do (or buy). All what's left for you to do is tell them: You need to buy this product, you need to become a premium member on WA.

Look closely and you'll see that is exactly how Kyle does it with WA. He teaches, he doesn't sell. And he shows you how to do it in his training. And in my humble opinion, that is one of the biggest reasons why WA is such an easy sell.

John, You are so right about Kyle's approach.
The reason it works is because he uses the
tell do not sell approach.
I have been in this profession for many years and
I do not sell anything. Yet I make a very good living.
