Ordered A New Car - Now Cancelled

Hi All,

I ordered a new car at the beginning of July, delivery was 14 weeks due to France manufacturing shutting down all of August for summer holidays.

I had a really good deal from a new car supplier, so I put a deposit down, the car was due around the middle of October. I have always had company cars and never owned my own, so I was really looking forward to the day when the car is delivered.

To prepare for the purchase I took out a loan, interest rates are very low in the UK. I was also ready to buy a new car dog crate for this car.

Sometimes I forget to look at my personal emails, could be a few days. On going through them yesterday, I saw an email saying PEUGEOT CANCELLED. The car dealer I ordered my car with said that Peugeot had revoked on their discounts. My car dealer asked Peugeot to honour the price not only me, but other customers that have ordered the same model car.

Peugeot refused and said due to demand they can sell all this model at LIST PRICE. So my car dealer has had to email all his customers (including me) that ordered this model car, cancelling all orders. The car dealer said they have never experienced anything like this before from a car manufacturer.

I still have my old car that has just had an annual service and MOT, what to do now I am not sure.

Do I start my search again, or not bother and keep my old car. One final thing, after getting the car cancellation email, I paid the loan back I took out in full plus £18.00 interest, my first repayment only started on 01st September 2017.

Yes I am a bit gutted, but I suppose you should never take anything for granted until it happens. The only good news my deposit has been returned by the car dealer.

Hope your week has started much better than mine.

Thank you,

John

Very disappointing for you, but at least you won't have any loans to pay back for now.

Thank you, Michel.

Paying the loan straight back, although costing me a bit more was what I wanted to do. I hate owing money.

John

Thanks for sharing, John.

Not a good thing to happen, but need to decide what my next move is.

John

I agree with Karen. Keep the old car for now and don't deal with any extra payments for now. Take the time to research other makes and models for your next purchase. I hope that when you're ready to get your next vehicle, you don't even consider giving Peugeot your business.

Thank you, Hal.

Peugeot should have agreed to the prices they originally gave the new car dealer. Definitely take my time on choosing something else, not Peugeot the way I feel at the moment.

John

Here in the U.S., they have a "truth in advertising" law, which, essentially would have forced the dealership to honor the agreement. They would have had to eat the mistake, not the customers
It probably would have put them out of business.

Thank you, Hal.

I wish that law applied here, I have an Invoice showing what I owe when the car was ready.
Peugeot surely could have honoured their deal, it's not they couldn't afford it.

John

Hello, John...I believe things happen for a reason. Stay with your current car until it dies. No car payment and you'll have time to search and find your next new car. Good luck :)

Thank you, Karen.

Yes you are probably right, paying back the loan + one months interest is not ideal. My old car has been very good and it would be sad to see her go, perhaps I should give a second life to "Betsy", that is the name of my old car.

John

Is Peugeot not in breech of honouring the agreement as you already paid and they agreed to sell it to you at a cheaper price?

Hi Richard,

I honestly don't know as my order was with a new car dealer broker in England, as I mentioned to be fair they tried to get Peugeot to honour the orders placed but refused.
I would think the car dealer will know the law, anyway I shall stick with my old 55 reg car for now.

John

Probably better away from the French cars...renowned for ongoing multiple minor problems!!!!
Life is too short so go for your dream with a similar Ford or Toyota if you can - that's from my experience anyway.
Best of luck

Thank you, Michael.

The french people are a bit temperamental, no wonder their cars are a bit suspect in your experience. I will stick with my old car for now.
I am watching Ireland v Serbia World Cup qualifier.

Hey, John, £18.00? very cheap interest rate. I would continue my search. earning something that you purchase does wonder to your ego. Happy searching.

Hi David,

I have been looking this afternoon but it makes you fed up searching after so long. Will decide one way or the other, at least I still have my old car for now.

John

I would look for a new car, John .. Cheers, William.

Thank you, William.

I have been looking all afternoon, but it does your head in after a while. At least I have my old car for now.

John

Am sorry to hear about the car order cancellation John. I try to figure out how a manufacturer can really treat customers like this. Anyways it's good that you received your deposit back as you wait for the next move.

Thank you, Paul.

The manufacturer tries to say it will do everything to look after a potential customer but it is all rubbish. At least I have my old reliable car still.

John

HI, John, I'd look for another new car, if it was me.

Wayne

Hi Wayne,

Yes, you could be right, just a bit peeved at the minute.

John

Completely understand. I would be pretty upset, John.
