Pricing Check: When to Pitch Yearly vs Monthly

Growing up, my mother would always ask the shopkeeper two questions: “How much for one cup of maize?” and “How much for the whole sack?” This was in the village. No modern markets, but homes were our markets, anyway.

One cup was cheap for the day, but over time, buying cups every day cost more than buying the sack once. She knew it. The shopkeeper knew it. The difference wasn’t just money; it was about commitment.

That’s exactly how yearly vs monthly pricing works in online business.

The Monthly Pitch (The Cup of Maize)

Monthly pricing feels safe. It’s like buying one cup at a time.

  • Lower upfront cost
  • Easier for people who are testing the waters
  • Flexible; can cancel anytime

But it comes with hidden costs. Over a year, it adds up to more. And psychologically, people who pay monthly often treat it casually. They might not commit fully because they’re not “all in.”

The Yearly Pitch (The Sack of Maize)

Yearly pricing is the sack. It looks expensive at first, but in reality:

  • It’s cheaper long term (WA offers discounts on yearly)
  • It locks in commitment; when someone pays for a year, they’re invested
  • It builds stability; for you and for them

When I paid yearly for WA, something changed in my mind. I stopped treating it like a trial and started treating it like a business.

So When Do You Pitch Which?

👉 Pitch Monthly when…

  • The person is brand new to the concept.
  • They’re hesitant or need to test before committing.
  • You want to lower friction and make the first step easy.

👉 Pitch Yearly when…

  • The person is already convinced of the value.
  • They’ve been around WA or your emails for a while.
  • They’ve shown seriousness in their actions (engagement, asking good questions, already earning credits).

In other words: monthly is for beginners dipping their toes, yearly is for swimmers ready to dive in.

My First Pitch Mistake

I once recommended yearly to a brand-new referral who hadn’t even explored the free trial properly. They disappeared.

Later, I learned: people don’t like being pushed into a sack when they’re only looking for a cup. Timing matters.

Why This Matters

As WA affiliates, our job isn’t to push; it’s to guide. Some people need to take it one month at a time. Others are ready to commit for a year.

The art is knowing which basket they belong in.

🔥 Pro Tip: Lead with monthly for beginners, but always highlight the savings and commitment benefits of yearly. That way, when they’re ready, the choice feels natural not; forced.

Because at the end of the day, whether it’s maize or membership, people don’t just buy the price; they buy the value, the trust, and the journey.

Morning John

This is excellent. Your mother's approach is spot on. As the son of shopkeepers, it's a practice that all people who grow up selling commodities understand.

Your application of the lessons you have learned, especially how you have utilized it to turn it into a training tool is great,

Can I have your permission to use your material for my own business?
Just asking ^_^ for a friend. Cheers

Hi, Paul, thanks for sharing your thoughts on this. Yes, you can adapt the idea, but not word-per-word as that'll be seen as a copy-paste, especially if you have to post it on your website. The WA doesn't allow that for some reason. I can't even post the same content elsewhere for the same reasons.

1

Two points
1 - I meant using the idea and maybe to format, not parrot what you have written, That's plagiarism and is a crime.
2 - Are you saying, that if i put some information on a post here in WA, that I cannot use it on my website. Please explain!!!

For number one, I understand. And for number 2, yes, you can't publish it on your blog/website if you copy and past it, depending on how much of it you copy. This avoid duplicate content, both for your website and the WA.

I recall reading about this somewhere, maybe the Posting Rules article, here at the WA. You might check it out to confirm.

1

No, maybe I asked the question wrong. What I want know is - when I post my own information here in WA. Are you saying that I cannot put it on my website. Isn't it my own Intellectual Property?

I got it, Paul. Check Rule #3: It's your content. But once posted, either here on your website, it's published, and Google will index it. Duplicate content s then penalized by search engines, which not a good idea for your website and the WA. Google may ignore it entirely.

However, I haven't done more research on these statements as yet. I will.

1

I'll ask Kyle, cause I put my post here (for my other websites) will still learning on my first website.

You're welcome, Paul. The rule number three there says it clearly. It didn't explain why, but I believe it's for these reasons, that search engines index these posts, and if shared in multiple place as whole, that become duplicate content.

1

Read it, doesn't talk about posting here and not being able to post on my website. Will still ask Kyle

It does. Here's Rule #3 word-per-word:

"Do not copy content from WA and post it somewhere else on the Internet. This includes copying your own blog content and putting it on your website."

I think that's so clear. You can still ask for clarifications.

1

Wow, You are absolutely right, John. Thanks for the clarity

You're welcome, Paul.

Interesting topic John, Thanks for sharing!

You're most welcome, Elma, and thanks for reading and the comments.

1

That is exactly how I approached my journey. I didn't get any pressure from anyone. I started monthly for a few months, until I got comfortable and was sure of the platform and then locked in the yearly savings when I could.

2

Good to know, Elyta. That's important to taste the system before committing to it for a year. That's what I did, even though my issue was funds.

2

Yes, having the funds was also something I had to take into consideration when choosing the timing.

You're most welcome.

John, the reflection back home, can teach Beginners the step forward in WA success program, like what you have mentioned earlier were members need to upgrade to yearly, rather than monthly.

2

Thanks for reading and the comments, Rarapi. Yearly is better for several reasons, but people might not be able to go yearly for some reasons, too. I was there. Now, it's history. I'm enjoying the yearly membership, and I recommend it to others, if they can.

2

Yes, I will….!

Thanks for sharing John!

You're most welcome, Wen.
