Legal and Medical Interpreter

Allow me to share this update with you. From October through December 2025, I attended a virtual course/training on the above-mentioned subject, and I did earn a title, now called a Professional (not licensed yet) Legal and Medical Interpreter for the United States of America! What a ...!

I have been doing translations and live interpretation sessions mostly at church and during other common public gatherings, here in South Sudan, Uganda, and Kenya. I started my professional live interpretation on the 2nd of August 2002 under a big fig tree, where we had grassroots peace initiative sessions among three neighbouring tribes, the Dinka (Jieeng), Nuer (Naath) and Shilluk (Chollo).

But little did I know that this would later land me a job to support not only my online business but also pay bills for house rent in Nairobi, Wi-Fi, and daily expenses for me and my family. Yep! I started doing several professional translation and interpretation jobs online since 2021 for clients from the US and the UK, and I was paid through WorldRemit, PayPal, and even through the Kenyan mPesa, our very own African technology.

I am sharing this to inspire you to look at your hobbies and see how you can improve them and then turn them into an income generating system. I recall writing about these tasks as side hustles, but they could become one's main business, if customers pour in, each week or day. I never had sessions each week or month, but it comes once or twice in a while. I just had my 2 separate court sessions today, and that was great!

I also share these to see if you know someone, or if you need my interpretation services from English to Dinka, Nuer, and even Sudanese Arabic, for medical and legal sessions, online, by video: Zoom, WebEx, and more, and also on the phone/bridge line. My passion to help people makes me enjoy what I do as an interpreter, more than the pay, so my services are relatively cheaper and affordable.

Also, I got a phone call (WhatsApp) later today from Khartoum, Sudan. Someone was asking me to help with translations and interpretations. He got me through a friend in another WhatsApp group I have been a part of since 2018, though the group was mostly dormant. Most people join groups and rarely share things with others, or interact with what others have posted, even if it's something to comment on, and that's humanly natural though.

Now, I can move to the next level and get certified in some US cities and states, since each state serves as country of its own, with its own laws and regulations that are different from other states'. But for now, I'm good to go and serve with mostly the Colorado Courts, and others. If a session lasts for 1 hour, I get paid of $70 ($66 after transaction fees). But if it's more than 1 hour per session, I get paid half of the price per hour, that's $35/hour.
