What a storm!

Yeah, I've flown through some doozies!

  • 100% of them unintentional!
  • Survived every darned one of 'em.
  • I've watched the static electricity dance across the instrument panel many times!
  • There have been times when the up and down drafts I thought would take the wings off.
  • Yet, I landed the plane, sometimes almost sideways, but always landed.
  • Got through every one.

This storm is different.

  • It is raging all over the world.
  • Does not recognize rich or poor.
  • Not phased by power or wealth.
  • Affects young and old... no one is immune.

Can we get this plane on the ground safely?

Yes... the answer is YES! It will be a bumpy ride. We pilots used to say: "Any landing you can walk away from is a good one." We'll walk away from this landing. We'll fly through this storm. May have some hail damage on the wings... windshield may get cracked, but dad gum it, we'll get through it.

Loved the post Kyle did:

At 82 years old, I'm gearing up for the next storm... there will be more, but we'll land this plane safely and live to fly again.

Yes, there are many of them and many more to come, however, it's up to us to work together to see it through and over cover come it like we have done so many times, before. Land this plane pilot and let's pick up the next load of passengers sir/ma'am.

Refective and thoughtful post, Joe, like us all there have been storms and many not of our making. Always pays to calculate the risk and then go for it.

There will be challenges, together we will all get there. Support at times like this is the one thing that can count for so much.

We are going to land and fly again.

Too much to do and achieve.

Take care Cap'n Joe. and stay safe we need you around these parts.

Alex

Thanks Alex

Great Post Joe. I had a number of those rides and am surprised to hear your reaction. 1 was landing in Johnstown, PA between snow storms. When he came out of the clouds we were facing a cliff at the end of the johnston airport., he adjusted and we landed. 1 was on take off in Denver climbing directly into the rockies with 154 mph winds. It was an old 707 where one of the flight attendants was sitting right next to me. Before take off she says you had better pull that seat belt very tight. she was very right. 1 was landing in LA from San Jose took a SW over the ocean when close to distance turned in towards LAX coming out of the clouds the plane was like a super fast elevator. He was off center on the runway made adjustments and started to descend & at about 150ft above he poured the coals to to the engines and took off and we were rerouted to another airport. The announcement came over the speakers that remain in your seats, shorty, we will take off and return to LAX. At that point 50% of the passengers got up and lined behind the exit door. They made the decision to leave us at that airport. Another one was in the Air Force I had been sent fix a computer in King Salmon, AK. The return flight was on a C-131 that had the smell of cabbage. The pilot was following up a ravine looking for any missing aircraft. He eventually flew us into a box canyon. the first sign of that was we were heading almost straight up and when he peeled over the top of the mountain we were very near the top.I was working in Hartford and got promoted to San Jose, CA. I was at JFK and boarded the plane and we pushed back and waited for approximately 3 hours. It was the day that the air traffic controllers went on strike. Eventually we got into the air but I could not lose the thought, who is going to handle the arrivals and scheduling the sequence of the planes coming in. By the way the captain announced that we were the last plane to leave JFK on that day. What a day but safe. There were others but it is why I am a white knuckle flyer.

Absolutely-Positively we will make it, it maybe tough at times but the old saying goes:
When the going gets tough, the tough get going.
This is true in all walks of life. and here we are going through it together!
Well maybe not in a plane, but at a computer lol.
Great post!
Have a Great Day my friend!
P.S. Stay inside and be careful.

Thanks.
Joe

Thanks for the encouragement

Worrying times, and easy to overwhelm ourselves with worry.

Personally I'm trying to distract myself from the worry by setting myself targets and goals here at WA and concentrate on them .. Only when I take a break from WA do i go and find out the latest news etc.

We will get through this all together. But I personally think we may have a very different world and perspective on the world by the time it is all over.

Great reply.
Joe
