I know I want to capture emails but I don't want everyone to be REQUIRED to enter their name and email and website just to leave a comment on my website…help plz :-(

Carla, you rock ... good advice!

Yes, it's through Settings, as Shawn said, but like Steve. . . . not sure you want to disable that. I have one site that is a spam magnet, even with Akismet running, and the requirement for an email. I'm not sure what would happen to it without it. Maybe you want to try it with and without? If you start getting tons of spam, then put it back. Good Luck!

yeah, never really thought about that.. thanks Carla

I believe you may want to keep that feature in place to prevent robots from spamming the heck out of your site. Just something to think about.

well I don't want the capcha to go away just forcing ppl to enter their emails and website would like to get rid of that, but thanks steve :-)

You can set them any way you like :)

So I have commented on a few blogs here at WA. I don't know if its where i posted the comment but for some odd reason I keep getting like numerous notices about everyone that keeps

You can also click the blue gear next to the affiliate link and remove yourself from the conversation.

thanks Steve that did the trick! Gosh that "What are your Money Goals" blog by kyle, was killing my notices like every minute… lol

I know what you mean :)

At the bottom of the email that tells you about the comment, it says "To unsubscribe or change subscription options". . . . and then there's a website. Click on that and a window will open up. You can unclick anything you don't want to receive.

Getting Started

Okay so i have went thru the Get started training. Although there is a course explaining affiliate marketing and promotions of products it doesn't say when to take action. So ho

Hi All.
I have read the comments below on when to start adding affiliate links to your website and it seems that I should go through the training until I get there but I have a different issue on my website.
My niche is RC Helicopters for beginners and so, form the 3rd post I am discussing the different types of helicopters you can choose from and which would be best for your requirements (which is also discussed). Now I can either just point them to a website that will give an introduction to each helicopter or I can point them to a link where they can buy the "recommended" helicopter.
At this stage the reader should have made up his mind that he wants to buy a helicopter but he should choose what to but and I don't want to loose the "sale".
I am not so worried about the sale but the content is such that I should give them the information they need and which one will be best for them.
My website name is Online RC Helicopters . com. I am busy with the post that I need to make a decision on weather to add the affiliate links or not.
Any suggestions or thoughts about this?
Sorry for the long story.

Hi, I took a peek at your site. Are the sites you listed in 'Shop' all available as affiliates for you? I guess the risk is as you say, they get information from you, and buy it somewhere else...

I would sign up for the affiliates once you feel you have enough content, and you have a very specific niche, so you might get approved quickly. Also, you're premium, on your own domain, so I don't think anything is stopping you.

Still pay attention to the training, but, getting things going with affiliates takes time too... I can see you doing a bit of both, signing up with affiliates, waiting, and adding content to your site...

Hi Gary.
Thanks for the reply.
No I am not an affiliate with all of them so I add a couple to get the idea and see if it will work.
I will apply for affiliate program for them all but, that leads me to another question.
Is there a risk if I have so many affiliate shops or can I add as many as I can?
Thanks once again.

I saw your site. Good start, but a few issues. It looks better in Google Chrome browser than Firefox. In Firefox, for me, the header is too large and not aligned correctly. I took a screenshot:

http://snag.gy/yrwKH.jpg

It is a nice header but it dominates the page and takes attention away from the content. I would reduce its vertical length by at least 1/3 of the current size, maybe more.

In the 3rd post, it would be better to write a full Review of each type of helicopter, listing the pros and cons, maybe even a comparison table of features and giving your readers enough information to make an informed decision without having to leave your site.

I don't feel you have enough content on the site to gain trust with your visitors - but you are certainly on the right track. Usually it is recommended to have at least 10 or 12 posts before adding links.

However, there is no "law" that says you cannot place affiliate links right now. It is your website and your decision. But first impressions count. You have several blank pages without content, and the site needs more content and a little more tweaking to gain trust and repeat visitors.

It's an excellent niche with a highly targeted audience of like-minded helicopter fans. You can do very well with it. Follow the training and keep going. ~Jude

Hi Jude.
Thank you for the comments. I like it when people point out some issues on the site that I can fix.
I was also thinking that the image might be to big. I will play around with some other sizes.
Do you know how I can fix the Firefox issue. I work in Chrome so I have never seen it like you have. Lesson learned - always check the other browsers.
I have set myself up for a lot of work and I need to get all the information together and fill out those empty spaces.
In my 3rd bog I will be comparing the helicopters to one another but it is too much details to have a review of each and I do not personally have the experience to review each. The idea is to do that in a separate post.
I think I will hold back on the latest post and first get all my content in place.
Thank you

I think you should apply to as many as you want, but advertise the ones you chose. If one affiliate has a product you recommend, and another doesn't, you can add a 'Buy it Now' text link at the bottom of the post. I don't think it's a good idea to have too many affiliate links on the same page/post...

Do the research so you can include the most pertinent points in your review. It doesn't matter if some of the information is repeated on the company site. Just make sure you rephrase in your own words as unique content from your perspective.

Nathaniell's tutorial can help: .
Once you have a review published, you can point visitors internally to to the review page from any other content you write.

~Jude

Hi Jude.
Awesome, I will look at the training from Nathaniell.
This is great advice. I will do a couple of reviews and use them within the next post.
Thank you.

Someone else asked this same question awhile back and the best answer I saw was to just go step by step with the courses and do not jump ahead.

How are you today? I was the same way as far as my patience went. If you continue writing new content and building out your site then the rest is explained in detail in coming classes. I know it can be frustrating but just hang in and continue with the classes. It will ALL be explained! Daniel

Also, in addition, I think after some # of months, if your website isn't able to make an Amazon referral, they take you out of the program, it's somewhere within a 5-6 month span, so yah better off waiting a bit til you actually see traffic starting to come through! For now, I would simply follow all the courses, and build content, esp. when told by Kyle. The order of the training really seems to work, its kind of amazing really.

Thanks for the help :-)

Very good question. Thank you for posting it.

your welcome :-)

I joined Amazon and have added there links, I am not live yet, They give you five months to get your site complete and up and then after the first purchase they review your site to decide on keeping you as an affiliate. Best buy expects you to have traffic already and I was turned down by them. Just depends on the affiliate program.

thank you kim!… So safe to say amazon is an easier one to get on and stay on? I noticed there are quite a few of them but some ask you to apply? and then wait for acceptance? others have you to be reffered by already existing members? I'm a lil ahead of myself BUT i just want the info….

Being pro active is much better than reactive! I just joined to add there links to my pages, they have another program and also a recruiting program. Good luck!

thanks for the help...

wow had no idea best buy has an affiliate program, that's pretty cool! Do you by any chance know how much daily traffic is required? Thanks for your advice!

Actually, did haven't gone too much further with them. Figured I would start with Amazon, simple but effective way to get traffic to the site. Even my friends are waiting for me to get my site live so they can go through it to order something. Just look up Best Buy Affiliate program on the internet, I can't post a URL here.

Best advise I can give is to wait until the training tells you to do so. I didn't follow that advise and was turned down by Amazon. Then when I got to that point in the training and tried again, everything went through with no issues. Keep working it!

oh okay.. cool! i didn't know if there was a time in the training where they actually had you do that so thanks James! I will keep at the training

I know this is probably an advance question but i see sometimes there are pictures next to descriptions when you google search. Safe to assume that there is a way to add a photo

Good question.Act as if it were impossible to fail. ( Dorothea Brande)

You can not do this anymore Google is getting rid of it

Barry

any particular reason why they are getting rid of it?

btw barry i read you blog on using other people videos (i.e. tutorials) on your website. I have yet to be successful adding a video to my website. I copy the embed and paste it in the "text view" but it doesn't show up for some reason. when i go to visual there is just a grey square where it should be with a film strip button that has a "play" symbol in the middle of it. can you help?

You can check out this blog post that explains it. https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/boomergp08/blog/google-authorship-where-the-heck-is-my-picture

awesome .. thanks steve!

That's of it will be a grey square in the dashboard area but if you go to your actual site it will be displayed fully

As for the reason that Google got rid of pictures in meta description this is my theory
The pictures worked to well and more people were clicking on websites than Google adds which decreased their revenue so goodbye pictures
Remember this, Google only does what is best for Google, not webmasters

Barry

okay. so i should publish with the grey square? cuz even when i just view the post nothing is there just me content description. btw i read the article steve posted the link to and it makes sense about the authorship. but thanks for your point of view of it barry ;-)

okay I just published and its up yay! thanks for your help barry!

Your welcome

Barry

This is done through setting up Google authorship which will be covered in the training. I do want to mention that using author images next to posts in the searches is being phased out.

aww that sucks… ok well thank you so much for your help! :-)
