Speed does matter .
While looking through my mails I noticed one letter. Interesting topic, good text, link to the site. Clicked on the link to go to the site.
And there ....
NOTHING. The page is uploading.
I thought I had a problem with the Internet - checked. Everything is fine. The Internet works, other sites open fast.
Clicked again.
Waiting...
Started to count ...
One... Two... Ten... Sixty... Seventy!
Hooray! Page opened.
I expected to see a beautiful page with many pictures and special effects. But no... What I got was the usual black and white page with the usual text.
Two pictures and small amount of text uploaded for 70 seconds. WOW!
Then I thought I have some problem with my computer. I was intrigued. After all, such a small page cannot be loading for that long. So, I opened this page on notebook and smartphone - result is the same (plus, minus 3-4 seconds).
I know many people (including me) who would just close this page without waiting for it to open. 70 seconds to open a simple page without special effects with black text and a white background is too much.
And this is considering that from this page they were trying to sell me a product. And not cheap product.
Probably, if it wasn't for my curiosity what would happen next, I'd just close the page. Most likely, most other people will.
The speed of opening pages is important, especially for selling pages. Each closed page due to low download speed is a lost profit. It's also a lost client who could've solve his problem.
Speed matters not only in car racing, but also in opening the site. And it does not matter if you sell your product, provide a service, or simply provide free content.
You should always check how quickly your site pages open. If they open quickly or within reasonable limits - perfect, if it takes a long time to open - look for a problem. And trust me - it exists.
SO, SPEED MATTERS ...

It certainly does, Jane! Especially with a new generation who, IMHO, know nothing of the virtue of patience!

Not only a new generation is impatient - this is our life getting more speed. Thanks for reading, Jeff

Hi Jane, right on point. Speed sure does matter. In this fast paced world people just don't like to be kept waiting. Thank you for the share.
