From South Sudan to China: Dream Big, Start Small, and Keep Moving
Next week, on July 16th, 2025, I will step foot in China—and Asia—for the very first time in my life. This isn’t just a trip; it’s a dream coming true. A dream I’ve held onto for years. Ever since I began my journey as a writer, storyteller, and online entrepreneur, I envisioned myself speaking to massive global audiences, not just from a screen, but on real-world stages. Though I won’t be the speaker at this conference, just attending is a milestone—a seed planted for future harvests.
This moment reminds me of why I joined Wealthy Affiliate (WA) in the first place: to build a life of purpose, freedom, and global impact.
So today, I want to speak to my fellow WA friends—especially those who are just starting or feel stuck. I want to remind you that your dream is valid. Whether you come from a remote village, a war-torn country, or a quiet suburb—your voice, your niche, your story matters.
Dream Big, But Don’t Skip the Process
Every dream has a direction. Mine started with a laptop and a message—resilience. I wrote books, launched a blog, joined Wealthy Affiliate, and learned how to build a website. But more than the tools and training, it was the vision that kept me moving: the vision to impact lives through words, stories, and mentorship.
And here’s the truth: you don’t need to be a tech expert, a marketing guru, or an influencer to start. You just need clarity of purpose, a teachable spirit, and the willingness to work through the steps.
Step One: Choose Your Niche—And Own It
What are you passionate about? Health? Travel? Education? Digital tools? Cooking? Your niche is your digital home—it’s where your message lives and grows. Choose a topic you love and can talk about for years. Not just a money-making idea, but a mission that fuels you.
Your niche is the first step to attracting the right audience. People don’t follow websites—they follow voices. They follow people who solve problems with empathy and consistency. Be that person.
Step Two: Create Content that Connects
Content is not king—connection is. Every blog post, video, email, or review you create should speak to someone’s need. If you’re promoting software, don’t just write features—write solutions. If you’re reviewing a course, explain how it helped you. If you’re building a personal brand, tell your story like I’m telling mine now.
Search engines reward quality, but people reward authenticity. The more human your content is, the more people trust you—and trust drives conversions.
Step Three: Drive Traffic with Purpose
You could have the best website in the world, but without traffic, it’s like speaking to an empty stadium. Use every ethical strategy WA teaches—SEO, social media, email marketing, YouTube, Pinterest, or even guest blogging. The more roads you build to your site, the more people you reach.
Remember, traffic is not just about numbers. It’s about attracting the right people—those who need what you offer. Focus on helping, not just selling. Give value first.
Step Four: Focus on Conversions
Traffic is the beginning, but conversions are the fruit. When someone signs up for your mailing list, clicks your affiliate link, upgrades their membership, or buys a product—you’ve created value that moves lives forward. That’s impact. That’s income.
Here’s what I’ve learned: people don’t buy products—they buy belief. They believe in your testimony, your recommendation, your journey. That’s why storytelling matters in marketing. You’re not just sharing links—you’re sharing transformation.
One Day, You’ll Look Back in Awe
As I prepare for my trip to China, I’m humbled. I didn’t arrive here overnight. I didn’t have perfect tools or perfect timing. But I had a purpose and a platform. And I want the same for you.
Maybe today you’re writing your first blog post. Maybe you haven’t made your first dollar yet. Maybe you’re doubting yourself.
But don’t stop.
Keep writing. Keep building. Keep learning. Keep dreaming.
One day, you’ll look back and realize every article you wrote, every product you promoted, every email you sent—it all mattered. It led you to places you never imagined, both physically and financially.
You belong on the global stage too. Start where you are. Grow with what you have. And never stop dreaming big.
See you at the top!

"Have a great time in China, John."
Here is the translation in Simplified Chinese:
约翰,祝你在中国玩得开心!
No, but my Chat buddy does. I thought it might be a nice touch since you are off to China.

Thank you, John, for sharing your journey and wisdom with such clarity and heart. Your reminder that dreams start with purpose, persistence, and authentic connection really motivates me. Hi, Kisha,
Thank you for the comments and the summary of the article. I went to Yangling, Xi'an and other places in China, and I'm back to Juba, South Sudan. It was my first time, but not the last yet. Sooner or later, I'll be invited to speak (and listen, too) in Beijing, Washington, etc.
John
