An Idea

I have an idea which may be of benefit to members.

I was inspired by the robot vacuum cleaner story that was part of the training presented by Dale.

During our WA training, it was emphasized that we should focus on helping people instead of promoting in-your-face advertising. The idea is to earn trust.

My website will be dedicated to the search terms “How can I .. ?” and some of its variations. I believe there are huge numbers of people searching Google with these terms apart from the obvious “Where can I buy ...?”

I would like to help people and I’ve accumulated a variety of skills and knowledge over the years and I'm sure it's the same for other members.

If I get a subscriber to my website who needs help, in many cases I will not be able to. However, if I had an opt-in list of members who have registered their primary skills, I could refer that subscriber to the member who does have the skills & knowledge required to solve the problem.

I assume a modest commission would be paid for each referral. In this way, the subscriber can be kept inside the WA framework and everybody would benefit.

We would need a list of members with their primary and other skills listed for quick reference.

  • accountant, gardener
  • actor, bodybuilder, martial arts
  • actress, gymnast
  • air traffic controller, pilot, dogs
  • architect, designer, cats
  • artist, tropical fish, mountain bikes
  • attorney, politics, snow skiing
  • banker, woodwork etc

I can see the number of skills, could become unmanageable. I have counted 25 for myself but if need be, I could whittle that down to 3 or 4 major skills. However, I think thoughtful indexing would cope and allow a shortlist to be presented to the user of the app.

I guess the idea would not appeal to those who’re already doing well and have no time for solving other people’s problems, and yet I believe there are many members who would enjoy getting a new subscriber and take the time to help them. In turn, they should in theory earn trust and make more sales.

Let me know what you think about this idea and how it could be set up.

It's really a very original ideal. And Originally it's important when starting a business.

One of the main things you want to focus on, especially early on, is keeping your niche and target audience relatively tight and specific.

This allows us to have laser focus with our audience and it creates a great user experience for them because they arrive at our site they find *exactly* what they're looking for, right? We have to remember we're not Amazon, at least now right out of the gate.

And even Amazon started with just books :)

So to that point, as you mentioned, you could very quickly get spread very thin trying to help everyone with everything.

Scale it down so your site is helping and targeting a very tight, specific audience, and work out from there over time :)
