Using Downtime to Enhance Your Future

One evening about a month ago, I was unable to sleep. The night seemed to be warmer than usual even though we had the coldest temperatures in history. I found myself throwing off the covers in a fit, trying to become comfortable in the large pillow top bed. That dreaded stage of life, my mother would describe as menopause, was finally upon me. If that is the case, I will fight with all my will, I refuse to be old and poor.

Knowing full well I have, once again, talked myself into a fitted frenzy, I slumped in front of the Boob Tube in the living room to watch the infomercials that only happen to be on at two am.

I begin to wonder why I was sitting there watching other people build their fortune. I tried to imagine my place in the modern world. A time where others will forcefully push the buttons on their remote, just to have the batteries die at the very moment my face fills the big screen. Someone, being too lazy to get up and change the batteries, or just too tired to care, will just vegetate on the exciting product that I can have in their home in less than three full day's. How can I invent that much needed doohickey that everyone on earth can't live without?

The picture of myself in high heels, making my way across a wooden stage, looking ten pounds heavier, and makeup melting down my face in the bright lights pops into mind. I would try to give the customer all the benefits of having this much needed product in just three easy payments.

Take a moment and ponder on this thought; those commercials are making someone money. If those half hour advertisements weren't padding an inventors pocket, they would not exist. Am I right? How many times have you wondered to yourself, how did I get here, at this spot that makes me cringe when the mail comes? Does your bank account look like someone just starting out, even though you worked hard for the last eighteen years, building your resume, working at jobs you swore by now you would have grown out of? I'm not begrudging the local market who hires your teenage son to stock shelves. Not at all, I'm just saying, isn't it time to be able to dress the way you want, to have the car you need, a car that you not only feel comfortable in, but one that will get you there in style? In all honesty for some of you, it would be more realistic to ask, how do I buy food, pay my rent, and be able to get gas in the car so I can get to work each day?

Instead of watching that person on TV doing what he does at two am, I decided to take action. That night I told myself that given the chance I was going to back to school and become a Doctor or a Lawyer. I have half of my credits, I told myself. Feeling so much better for just coming up with a plan, I popped in my ear buds and began to listen to subliminal guided messages that were going to talk to me about all the positive things I need to hear as I slept. I not only do this because it is relaxing in its Zen like qualities, it also can't hurt to have someone who will whisper how great I am as I sleep.

Thank goodness I didn't sign up for school. Laugh if you must, but I received an email the very next morning, about a man who created a program that was going to make me rich. You know which one I'm talking about? The one where he would sell me a program (totally free) and I would be given a secret code to put on my computer that will raise my bank account to astronomical levels. I truly contemplated this mans sales pitch. If I could of, I would of bought the program, honestly I would. But how many of us can say that we have the extra hundreds to invest? Anyone who knows better, should knows that if I'm looking for a job it's because I need money, I don't have it to give away? How strange! But curiosity got the better of me and I did a search on his money making program online. What I found really didn't shock me, it was a scam. Long story short, I didn't get the much needed codes from the man who was on the yacht trying to sell it to me. What I did instead, changed my belief in the online money making industry. I was directed to a website that offered much more than the "secret code" to make me rich. Does the old saying "Give a man a fish and he eats for a day; teach a man to fish and he will eat for a lifetime" The name of the website is Wealthy Affiliates. The fun thing I learned that night about this company is that it is a community (much like Facebook for grown ups) with actual opportunities. The two gentlemen who created this community give you video after video of lessons on how to build your own websites, how to use those websites to make money, and how to interact with your audience. I was so totally amazed by their story that I, as a journalist, had to research a bit further to find the scam in what they were trying to "sell". Instead I found just what they said I would, the training I needed to begin to make money for myself, and for my family. I am a freelance writer who works from my home, I'm not really making the money that I would like to make, but making enough to get the food on the table. I found that after just three short days of being a part of this community, I was not only able to build a website, but I was able to make money on the site I built. And the best part of this is I am still writing. I write not for other people, but I write for myself, and my own blog. It truly did not cost me one red cent to become a member, they have a seven day trial. I questioned that, because let's face it, everyone claims to be free until they tell you what the price will be. And true to their word, I did not have to invest any money, they were the ones who took the risk and hosted my site, a piece of technical real estate that I own. After much heated debate with myself, I did finally invest the $19.00 to become a premium member.

Was it worth it? Yes, and I'll tell you why, I am now a proud owner, operator, president and CEO of the one and only...According2janith.com. A website about my son and his challenges in life. I did built a second site as well, because I wanted to double my income. (That site is due to be launched by the end of March, so keep an eye out for it.)

In conclusion I want to ask you some very serious questions. How would you feel about getting out of bed in the morning and walking to work, but not leaving your house? Would you like to keep the job you have, but try to learn how to build a website that you're passionate about? Do you think you have a product, or some knowledge that you need to share with the world? Well, if the answer is yes...then click here to begin your free trial with Wealthy Affiliate. It's worth the freedom. It's worth the Downtime To Enhance Your Future.
