My Pinterest Aha Moment ( Homework )

My Pinterest Aha Moment ( Homework )

I just finished watching Jay’s live training on Building Long-Term Pinterest Strategies, and honestly, it gave me one of those “wait… I’ve already been doing this?” moments.

In the 9-part Pinterest series, Jay explained three types of pins:

  • Image pins with titles + descriptions
  • TOBI pins (text-over-background image pins)
  • Scout pins – plain image pins with no SEO, no title, no description

Now here’s the funny part…

I had never heard the term “Scout Pins” before. But I’ve been posting them for years, completely unknowingly.

My Aha Moment During the Training

When Jay mentioned that Scout Pins often get more impressions, I checked my Pinterest analytics.

What I saw genuinely surprised me.

My top-performing pins were exactly what Jay described as Scout Pins:

  • Simple images
  • No keyword-optimized titles
  • No descriptions
  • No intentional SEO

And yet… they were sitting right at the top.

Pinterest Analytics

Here’s what my analytics showed:

  • My top 3 pins (by impressions) are Scout Pins
  • They were posted back in April 2025
  • Over the last 180 days, one of these pins received:
    • 4.39k impressions
    • 194 pin clicks
    • 22 saves
    • Organic traffic only

(No ads. No promotions. Just Pinterest doing its thing.)

👉 This is exactly what Jay was talking about.

Why This Training Hit Home for Me

What I really appreciate about WA training is this:

It doesn’t just teach what to do,It explains why things work.

I had results sitting right in front of me for years, but I didn’t have the language or framework to understand why they were working.

Jay’s breakdown helped me connect the dots:

  • Pinterest doesn’t always need SEO-heavy pins
  • Sometimes the platform just needs good targeted visuals
  • Scout pins act like explorers, testing what the audience responds to

Meanwhile, image pins and TOBI pins help you scale and structure once something clicks.

My Big Takeaway (and Why I’m Sharing This)

This training validated something important for me:

You don’t need to do everything perfectly from day one but you do need the right education and training to recognize what’s already working.

If I hadn’t watched this session, I would’ve continued:

  • Ignoring those old pins
  • Not realizing their strategic value
  • Missing an opportunity to build smarter Pinterest content going forward

A Quick Reality Check

Years ago, Pinterest allowed up to 5 accounts, but now it only allows 3 accounts. So I lost access to my main account Reiki Amazes.

I reached out to Pinterest through their help section and eventually got the access back. However, I lost a lot of traction and momentum - impressions dropped significantly. At its peak, this account was doing around 160.2k monthly views, it came down to about 4.5k monthly views.

Right now, I’m actively working on rebuilding that momentum, and seeing Scout Pins still perform despite the dip has been both reassuring and motivating.

So if you’re working through Jay’s Pinterest lessons, check your Pinterest analytics before assuming something isn’t working.

You might already have a quiet win sitting there…

WA training stays spot on every single time.
