How Will People Generate Wealth If AI Does Everything? Sam Altman’s Surprising Take!
Hey WA fam,
I just finished watching this 5 min video—“How Will People Generate Wealth If AI Does Everything?”—and it's left me with more questions than answers (in the best way possible).
If you haven’t seen it yet, the video explores a future where AI handles most human jobs. And that leads to a big, uncomfortable question:
If AI ends up replacing the majority of jobs, who’s left to buy the products and services AI creates? With what money?
We’re already seeing the impact, customer service roles shrinking, AI writing code, designing graphics.,, even content created in minutes by AI tools. It's easy to imagine a world where hiring a human just doesn’t make economic sense anymore.
But here’s the twist: if no one's employed, then no one’s earning. And if no one’s earning... who’s spending?
That’s the paradox the video touches on, but doesn’t fully answer.
So Where Would the Money Even Come From?
One comment under the video really nailed this concern. It said:
"He doesn't answer the question. Wealth won't be generated if 99% of the population is unemployed. If everyone had an AI agent for free, they wouldn’t be able to make anything that could be sold to anyone, because no one would have money. Where's the money for UBI(Universal Basic Income) coming from? ‘Income tax’? The wealth generated from AI? Who’s subscribing to OpenAI when they’re unemployed? How is Microsoft selling Windows on new laptops if the masses can’t afford new laptops? This is a paradox.”
It’s a fair point. If the economy depends on consumer spending, and consumers no longer have jobs or income, how does that economy function?
Does AI create new forms of wealth we haven’t yet imagined? Or does it make things so abundant and cheap that ownership and profit become obsolete concepts? These are big, important questions and no one has clear answers yet.
Why This Conversation Matters to Us at WA
As affiliate marketers and online entrepreneurs, we’re not just watching this unfold, we’re right in the middle of it.
We’re using AI tools, adapting to the changes, and trying to stay ahead. But it’s also worth stepping back and thinking: Where is this all going?
If the traditional economic model shifts completely, how do we build sustainable businesses? How do we continue creating value? And who exactly is the future customer?
These aren’t doomsday thoughts. They’re essential reflections for anyone building a digital business in a fast-changing world.
What Do You Think?
I’d love to hear your thoughts on this:
- Is the concern in the comment valid?
- Do you think AI will generate new wealth streams or just replace existing ones?
- And what would a truly AI-driven economy mean for people like us, working online and building businesses?
Looking forward to your insights,
Jivita

Great stuff as always Javitajay.
I stayed away from most of this fluff and remained in Cryptocurrency.
I was told that I was an idiot.
Ten years later I have turned $647 dollars into $150,000 plus.
That is going to double in the next five.
Bitcoin will end mining in 2040.
By then all are mined and many have been lost.
Do you have a satoshi?
My mother, rest all, left each of the grown children $16,000 each.
That was in 2018. I do not know what my siblings did, but I bought BTC and ETH.
My mothers $16,000 is well above $50,000. Thank you mother.
All comments are welcome.
Take care,
@PMindra.
All points are valid. I am actually a huge believer in AI. Will it take jobs in the future? In my opinion, it’s a yes (it’s already happening ). But if we learn about AI and harness its power, it could really help…certainly on an individual level. Becoming an entrepreneur is becoming more accessible, especially if you choose a niche that will fix real life issues. The problem is, some people don’t want to learn. We are still early and therefore have an advantage.
Good morning Jivita,
Thank you for your blog post, I must admit it's a very interesting question and something that I have often thought about.
I know there was lots of excitement on the platform when AI was first introduced about 30 months ago. I must admit that I had many reservations about AI, (so I wasn't excited) however, I am using AI and it can be extremely helpful, but it can also make many mistakes and get things wrong, which can be time-consuming. So, in other words, though I'm using AI, I do still have many reservations.
The fact that members were saying that maybe they were writing one blog post a week and now AI enables them to write seven blog posts a week. So what's the advantage, everyone else is doing the same, apart from now we have seven blog posts of AI rubbish! I am exaggerating a little bit, but AI was spinning out absolute rubbish in the early days. There are thousands of Wealthy Affiliate reviews on the Internet, which almost say exactly the same thing, it's not someone's personal experience, it's AI scraping everyone else's experience from the Internet!
However, AI has considerably improved since the early days and now I'm starting to think, will we actually need schoolteachers, do we actually need Wealthy Affiliate any more? When I first started out online, I could see the power and the potential of the Internet, but I had no idea what I had to do. So I ended up buying many scam products, that didn't do what they said on the packet, to try and find the key to making money online. It took me three years to get my first moneymaking website up, I could probably almost learn the same at Wealthy Affiliate in three weeks, rather than three years.
So my point being, now, I can just go and ask ChatGPT how do I make money online, can you take me through this complete process one step at a time and so forth, etc. I could actually go on and on, but I will leave it here, it's a very interesting subject and I think you can see what I'm saying!
We even have plug-ins and software that may be paid for, but now we can just ask AI to do these tasks, it really does make me wonder what will happen. I believe that AI will be far bigger than the Internet itself. Let's see what happens!
One thing is for sure, we can't worry about it, we just have to move forward.
Have a fantastic weekend.
Roy
Hi Jivita! It is a big concern indeed. I think AI has already been generating new wealth streams even though it is replacing existing ones. But I am worried about people like us working on line. I have started without AI, and I have been confused about using AI and how to adapt to this fast paced changes. Worried that my small business couldn't compete... but I found out than more than ever, authenticity is what will be searched for!
I am just starting to adjust and feel more and more confident about the future of online marketing.
Wealth is not always “money” and labor (work) is not the only way to generate income. (Most people only understand the trading time for money aspect)
Cash Flow is currency and as long as there is an exchange of energy (products and services) there will be income (and outgo).
It’s possible that AI does literally ALL THE WORK and the humans just exchange energy and live life.
I'm not exactly sure what it is Magicbrad, but I do feel there's something big we haven't quite figured out yet.
Humanity has faced countless challenges throughout history, and somehow, we’ve always found a way to adapt and survive.
I believe we’ll navigate this too, even if the path isn’t clear right now.
Excuse me. Before I get into my actual comment, I want to say that Jivitajay's article, the video that inspired it, and everyone's comments are equally valid. That being said...
A thought from a dreamer. What if, in the process of AI taking over a major chunk of what humans do, as well as creating new opportunities, it is found out that we don't really need money? What if AI can show us how to do that? What if AI can help us find a way to feed the world just because it is the right thing to do? What if AI can show us how to end all war, without ending ourselves? What if AI can show us how to use Mother Earth's resources without abusing her? What if it also shows us how to save this beautiful world, despite all of the harm we have caused it?
What if AI can show us how to build a society where everyone and everything works for the good of all?
Even though this may sound Utopian, and truthfully it does, Kind of like Star Trek. It will still be massively flawed because we are part of it. We have to get over and past ourselves and work for the betterment of everyone and everything for AI and Humanity to reach its full potential.
Yes, this is a dream, and I am a dreamer. Does that make this vision wrong?
JD
Amen, that was my first reaction after reading your dream JD. There’s absolutely nothing wrong in dreaming. In fact, I deeply resonate with your vision and how I wish your dream (and mine) for this beautiful Mother Earth comes true.
But I’ll be honest, I’m also worried. AI is a powerful tool, and like any tool, it depends entirely on whose hands it ends up in.
If used with the wrong intentions, it could do more harm than good. After listening to Sam, I felt quite upset… it reminded me how important it is that we stay conscious, involved, and keep asking the hard questions.
Still, your dream gives me hope. Thank you for sharing it.
who's going to grow the produce ot feed the masses - why should they work when the rest are not...
do they get more 'money' as they are valuable key workers....
same with the emergency services - do they get more.....
there are a lot of jobs ai cannot take over at the moment so i really do wonder how this is going to work...
there is talk of not needing universities as ai knows it all and the product in your pocket knows it all...
this doesn't mean you understand what you are doing - you maybe applying the incorrect information to a product and make it dangerous...
i can see a digital revolution but we still need to eat - or maybe that is the advantage of ai....
google has just bought a $3b hydro electric system to power the next gen of ai...
if they all start doing this where is the power available for the rest of us.....
at th emoment there are just questions without answers....
over the next couple of years at the growth rate of ai currently we will all be affected by it majorly...
governments cannot keep up with the changes and no country is willing to apply the brakes for fear of being left behind...
but we really don't know what we have created...
as you say we are in the midst of it....
but we must all remember who came out on top in the gold rush- the people who sold the tools rather than the ones who used them....
so learning how to make and use tools would be the best way forward....
It opens up a whole conversation about value and fairness in a future economy Phil. I also share your worry about energy. When tech giants start buying up power resources to feed their AI models… where does that leave the rest of us?
It really does feel like we’re mid tech tsunami with no clear map. Maybe the safest bet is learning and understand what’s really happening under the hood.
Lots to reflect on.
Pretty sure AI, at some point will be able to direct us on how to procure unlimited free energy. It's all around us in sound waves and sunlight it's just a matter of harnessing it. I know China is hard at work on cold fusion - and when they get it right that will also be unlimited, clean energy. I just have a hunch from being a science nerd that energy will not be a problem very soon.

Hi Jivita,
What a thought-provoking post — thank you for sharing it and starting such an important conversation!
You're absolutely right: as AI continues to reshape the landscape, the biggest question isn't just what it can do, but how humanity fits into that future, especially in terms of wealth generation, consumer power, and value creation.
💡 “If AI does everything… where does the money come from?”
That paradox is real. If people are unemployed, the entire consumer-based economy hits a wall. The video and that YouTube comment highlight a fundamental flaw in our current model if we don’t adapt alongside the tech.
But here's one possible direction I see:
🌱 New Models of Wealth Creation Could Emerge
Ownership of AI tools: People may not do the work, but they might own or manage AIs that do. Think of it like investing in machinery or digital assets. Those who own “productive AI agents” could generate passive income.
Creator economy 2.0: While AI can create content, humans still crave authenticity, stories, connection. We may see more value placed on real-life experience, personal branding, and human perspective.
Digital real estate: Just like websites, affiliate links, or niche blogs — these assets can keep generating revenue with the right traffic. AI may help build them, but they still need people to guide them strategically.
🔄 As for UBI...
If AI increases productivity and profits exponentially for companies, it's possible governments or companies themselves will need to redistribute wealth through Universal Basic Income or stakeholder models — giving everyone a share in AI-generated output. But we're not there yet — and it's politically and economically complicated.
💬 To Your Final Questions:
✅ Is the concern valid?
Absolutely. If no one can afford to spend, it collapses the cycle of growth. So either new jobs or new systems of distribution must arise.
✅ Will AI create new wealth or replace it?
Likely both. It will destroy some industries while birthing others. We’ve seen this with every revolution — industrial, digital, and now AI.
✅ What does it mean for us?
For affiliate marketers and online business builders, adaptability is everything. Those who leverage AI rather than compete with it will lead. It’s not about beating AI, it’s about working with it to amplify what only humans can provide — empathy, trust, vision.
Thanks again for this thoughtful post. These are the conversations we must keep having.
To the future — cautiously optimistic and creatively armed!
