Why do people use an alias

Have you ever wondered why people use an alias, especially when it really isn't necessary.

I do know people use aliases to protect their identity, maintain their
privacy, avoid being associated with certain activities or things they may have
done in the past and it's understandable when someone, who is attempting to avoid
being found by others or organization may use an alias to hide their true identity and keep from being found, but that's not what I am talking about.

When I first joined WA a few months ago, it seemed like many people used an alias, so I decided to use a nickname which was really an alias. But after only a few days of conversing with several very nice and smart people and after a little thought, there was no good reason for me to use an alias. I am not trying to hide anything, I do not, personally know anyone on WA and I don't "plan" to say or ask anything stupid, if I can help it,

I also, discovered when I told people about WA they would go online to look up my page and see what this is all about so with no hesitation I ask Kyle t change my alias to my real name.

Finally, I have no problem with it but I still see many people that use an alias and just wonder why!

It may not be all bad. Aliases or username can also be a representation of themselves or their new direction

Hi Jim, I remember when I was creating my account (several years ago), a few different variations of my name were already taken, so I decided to just take a few letters out of my first name. I haven't really thought about it since, until now!

Thank you MiaL

That's a good question, Jim! Some aliases might reflect their brand name too, though!
