My Progress This Far
I hope that everybody has been finding a lot of success. I have had some set backs but that's OK because they have taught me a few things and that's what this all about right? Since I am at the end of Level 2 of the Online Entrepreneur Certification training and it has provoked me to write a blog post of where I am at and I will try to do just that.
Starting Out
Out of the gate, I had rushed into building a website about comic books and comic book merchandise, t.v and movies. I had initially had the idea of narrowing down my niche to characters other than the main heroes. I lost interest a lot faster than I thought I would and it really surprised me because I really enjoy watching the movies and TV series, and reading the novels. I think a lot of it had to do with the fact that as I was researching for blog posts, it seemed flooded and I got very intimidated and lost my focus.
While I haven't totally lost all hope, I decided to step back from that niche and focused on doing some freelancing. I had some commissions come in and focused on those for a few weeks and kind of left my WA in the air after completing Level 1. I would occasionally go and fiddle with my websites and just get discouraged.
My 2nd Niche Attempt
My 2nd attempt was building a niche site for Funko Pops. I went into the classroom and followed the videos on the Niche website project from last year. I was moving right along.
I had my website, my log, my all-in-one set up with google analytics, google search, and even had some great images and product reviews ready! When I tell you I was on the ball, I mean I was set!
Then I came to the end of the 3rd week video and it all came crashing down. I had, I guess being absent-minded, named my site with the company's name in the title. I don't know what I was thinking! Since I am just glad that Jay had mentioned it (and I caught it) before I got months into building my site to have it shutdown by the company.
Started Bootcamp
After getting frustrated with researching comic book characters and almost landing myself in hot water over possible copyright infringement, I went and started the Affiliate Bootcamp. I went and bought another domain name and wrote 2 blog posts. I did a 30-day review of WA and one about Niche research.
When I was writing my 3rd blog post, it was a post on tips for selling art online. I was also doing another picture for someone at the time and it dawned on me that since I already had a website for my art that I should move it over to WA and rebuild it into an authority site.
Going Where I Should Have Started
I had an epiphany, a calling from the marketing Gods, or just realized that what I was already working on at home, should be what I try build on.
So I went to researching how to move my website jimbostudio.com. I had seen videos on how to move domains away from Hostgator to every other hosting...except WA! Well, after about 8 hrs of searching I found a video on how to move my domain from Hostgator to WA.
Take a guess where I found it?..... Well it was in WA's Live Chat of course! serves me right for not accessing the tools that WA has already provided.
I was pointed to a video that showed how to do it. I did the filezilla download, went and changed the DNS files, everything. I then went to upload my website into WA and of course it failed.... yep. I tried several times to get it to upload, but somehow it would not recognize this or could not do that, the heat was building and I was at my wits end.
I kept getting warnings that my site was possibly being hacked and it couldn't be signed in to. So at the peak of my frustration I got the bright idea to contact WA's Help Center to see if they could help me out.... are you seeing the pattern here?
Well they told me to check a few settings and then said that everything looked fine on their end. After that I ended up giving it a day or two, just to let the frustration to fully get out of my system, and you know what?
My website was up and running !!
I was ecstatic, it was if the whole experience was just a bad dream.
Where Since I am At Now
Well, with my other commitments fulfilled, portraits done, 4-5 blog posts written, published, and excited about the next post, I have this huge sense of accomplishment. I have my site here at WA, Since I am in the process of doing some videos to put on my site and on YouTube. I have a list of topics to write about and Since I am researching some affiliate programs to promote on it.
Looking back on it now, I laugh thinking about how mad I was getting. I was angrier at myself for not just reaching out and trying to figure it all out myself. I was overlooking all of the researches that WA gives us, and it just made it so hard.
While I haven't given up on the other 2 sites, Since I am going to just focus on Jimbo Studio for a while. Get my traffic up, post quality content, and work it to the best of my ability.
