Out of action for a few days
I was notified by the hospital this afternoon that they have booked an opration for me for next Wednesday 27th May. This has been ongoing since last August, they have been deciding different ways to try and remove a blockage in one of my intestines. They have now decided a small operation is the best way. It is estimated I should be in for about 2/3 days. The hospital is less than 10 minutes from my home, and I have been in twice before for slightly bigger problems, Prostate removed, in 2016 and hip replacement several years ago. Spanish hospitals have a great reputation amongst all residents. This is a state hospital, it's all free. They do not use a ward system here that's the beauty of it,.Private room ,private bathroom, coloured TV , chef arrives every morning with a menu for the day, picture windows look out to the sea in the distance.I have started lesson 8,moving forward. Owards and upwards. Never say never.

Wow! I wish our hospitals were like that. My bill for a 3 1/2 week stay to have a portion of my right foot amputated, was $93K. The hospital room wasn't private and there was only an ancient 13" B & W TV on the wall! Good luck on your surgery and we'll see you when you get back!

Hi Jeff,
I suppose we are in some ways very fortunate. Being an ex pat Brit living in Spain, we have to accept that maybe when the UK finally leaves the EU this could change??
The Spanish government issued a decree which has been put into Spanish law stating that the services enjoyed by Brits in Spain would be guaranteed after Brexit IF the UK government offered the same to Spanish citizens living in the UK. Well that seems to be happening at the moment.??
Best wishes,keep safe
John
Let's hope it continues for you, John!
Enjoy your day, and my prayers for a positive surgical outcome!

Hi Jeffrey,
I went to the hospital this morning for several tests, incl Covid test.
I am having a blood test and chest X-ray on Monday morning.
Thank you so much for your prayers, and may you have great weekend.
Stay safe

Hi John,
Disregard the pain and the inconvenience that sounds like a pleasant time in your hospital.
When I was in Green Valley Arizona I had a private room and superb food which is not the norm in the United States.
We hope all goes well for you and fast recovery for you.
Best wishes,
Bill & Sue
Hi Bill and Sue.
Good to hear from you both. I think that hospital food is always regarded as well "could be better". Here in Spain is no exception, it's what is inclined to let down a very good service. I seem to remember last time that there was a lot of fish on the menu and several soups plus chicken. You can't have everything??
Keep yourselves safe and my best wishes .
John
Hi John,
That you for your informative reply. I suppose hospital food might be less than perfect to help to get the patient out of the hospital.,
But I had a good food experience in a hospital stay over a year ago. In spite of tolerable food, I don't want to visit that place again.
Bill
Hi Bill and Sue,
No, I must admit that it's not my favourite place. I hope it's only for 2 days. I have a further blood test and chest X ray on Monday morning, at the unearthly hour of 8.00 am.
best wishes to both of you stay safe
John
Dear JHatch2
I will keep you in my prayers for the operation on 27th May to go through well. You seem to like the hospital stay over. Most good hospitals offer at least the minimum which you have mentioned but still there are people who dread having to go into hospital.
All the best in continuing with your learning progress in WA Lesson No. 8 and onwards. Stay strong and be happy!
Hi Oshini,
Thank you so much for your wonderful reply. I was there this morning having a blood test and ECG in preparation. We are still under lockdown,so not that many people about.
Keep safe and thank you
John
