Namecheap vs. GoDaddy Rip-Off?!

I see many people asking in chat which is the best domain name registrar.
It's usually a question of Namecheap (the WA recommended choice) vs. GoDaddy. In my case I have used both.
GoDaddy seems to win a lot because of very cheap prices. But even if you ignore the upsells many people do not always ask about other costs. GoDaddy charge a lot for domain privacy when the first year is free at Namecheap.
A year ago I bought a domain and privacy because there was an offer at Godaddy $2.98
The price seemed to be a bargain, just $ 3.13 + $ 5.99 for privacy. OK, so far, so good, but then there's the renewal cost.

What about after the first year?

What?! $ 24.98 for a domain renewal for one year? I'd have to be raving mad if I renew my domain at GoDaddy!
My choice not to renew
I don't have any idea why it's so expensive to renew a domain with them. I'm still trying to understand how they make up their prices.
From my point of view NameCheap is at the moment the best company to register a Domain. No hidden fees, free privacy for a year, so fair price, trustworthiness, consistency and they really give great technical support.
Right now I buy all my domains at Namecheap and I am in the process of transferring my other domains from Godaddy to NameCheap
I hope this blog help you to choose a better domain registrar provider and not be fooled by upfront misleading prices.
