Welp, I Picked a Niche

A couple of days ago, I started training here. I've also connected with a few people and gotten some sage advice. I read several blog posts. And I probably spent too much time mulling over what my niche would be. Much more than the 15-30 minutes alloted by Kyle in the training anyway!

I am retired at the ripe old age of 42 for one big reason. I have degenerative disc disease in my back along with arthritis that limits my mobility and activity. But most of all, it causes me a lot of pain and suffering.

I have been dealing with this for four years now. In that time, I have tried just about anything that might help, even if just a little. Even considered a major surgery that offered a slim chance of helping. I didn't do it. Too risky, expensive, and scary.

Anyway, back pain is my niche. And I've picked a domain and registered it. mybackpaincenter.com will be my new home for the forseeable future.

Stay tuned for updates...

P.S. Oh, and I upgraded to premium. No big deal, right? :-D

Choosing a niche??... AWESOME
Welcome to Premium!

Congrats on picking a niche and going premium! I think back pain from a number of sources is a very common problem. I have a connective tissue disorder that includes things like progressive scoliosis, osteoarthritis, and other nasty issues. My mom ended up on full disability in her early 40's primarily due to her back issues. Anyway, with your back pain experience, you're probably pretty much an expert in the topic and that will be clear in your writing.

Thanks for the kind and encouraging words Ginger. Sorry to hear about you and your mother's issues. Back pain can be the worst at times.

How's your journey here going so far?

Things are how they are. If it weren't back pain, it would be something else. There are good days and bad days for me. I'm in Colorado so I have some pain relief options; I'm hoping not to become dependent on narcotics as early as my mother was.

My journey here is still in the early stages. I joined in August but didn't do anything for most of September or October. I started to focus again in November and my niche blog got it's first amazon affiliate sale this month. Not that it earned me much money yet but it's a start. I really like the step-by-step training to move towards social aspects of gaining readers. That's what I feel was missing in other things I tried.

Very true. Good days and bad for sure. I'm in Indiana, so I don't have the options that you do. ;-) Also, the cold weather is really tightening things up back there...but if I can sit and watch TV or read a book, I can sit and type, with my TENS unit heating pad.

I'm with you, I've avoided narcotics at all costs. And I think that'll will help me stay productive, among many other things.

Congratulations on your first sale!!!! That's pretty exciting.

What's your niche, if you don't mind me asking?

I went pretty broad when I chose small dog stuff. I joke that it's Bella's (my mini poodle) blog and social media. I have things like travel tips, training tips, toy reviews, food reviews, and dog-friendly recipes. I'm approaching it along the lines of small dogs are different than larger breeds but they're not stuffed toys. I think that's important; tips and training info for larger dogs are often difficult to implement for smaller dogs. Plus small dog owners have specific concerns, like the dangers of hawks, that the owner of a large dog doesn't have to consider.

It's easier to rank and be considered an authority in a short time with a narrower niche. I have time and for now, I'm treating it as a hobby so I went broad. Also, I'm already a member of a bunch of dog related groups so I could put the link in my signature line.

Nice, I have a small and medium chihuahua boys, Hugo and Watson. I attached a picture for you. Hugo is black and white, 15 years young! Watson is about 5 now and has ears so big he can hear the future!!

PM me the name of your site, or put it here (not sure about the rules, but I'm asking so hey...). I'd love to check it out.

Jerimy, welcome to Premium - actually its a pretty big deal. I too have degenerative discs in my back. I understand the pain it can create. I'm also diabetic and have been in a wheelchair since late 2014 when I had a bad case of diabetic feet and leg ulcers. I have a blog site devoted to growing old with diabetes.
I've been premium for over 4 years. Still working toward my goals. I have had a little success but several periods of not working on my sites at all due to health issues. But I'm for sure sticking with this until I do reach my goals. Good luck and hang in there. -Shirley

Hi Shirley, pleasure to 'meet' you. Thanks for the understanding and encouraging words. It means a lot.

You will reach your goals. Although I'm a noob here, let me know if I can be of any assistance.

It is a big deal - you've made an important decision on how you will spend the next several months/years of your life. Your writing will have a special ring of truth because of your experience. You will be able to help a lot of people by creating this site. You've just taken the first step towards having a whole new group of friends and followers. Congrats!

Jeannine, those were such sweet words. Thank you so much!
