Anatomy of a Product Review Post

I have to write my first product review post today. Admittedly, I've been at this all day. It's now 4pm my time and I haven't written Zilch. Zero. Nada.

What exactly have I been up to? Firstly, trying to find something worthy of reviewing. I've got that now. Second, just what the heck do I write about here? How do I structure it?

Of course I watched the training video. And looked at zillions of review pages for inspiration.

Well, first I found a plugin called WP Product Review Lite and spent some time getting it set up and testing it. Basically, it puts up an infographic of your review and a buy button with your affiliate link. Like so:Now what to write about? I decided to write about the following headers that I found on Michael Hyatt's Blog:

Overview—what’s included, how much it costs, and so on

The good—mention the two or three aspects that were most enjoyable or useful to you

The bad—write about what didn’t work so well – this adds credibility, especially if you’re an affiliate for the product / service

Verdict—should your readers buy the product / service?

I used these headings and created a template in my Site Content area for future use.

I found this to be the most concise and useful outline for writing a review post. I hope that it helps you, and saves you some time.

Let me know what your ideal product review post looks like in the comments below.

Thanks for reading, and happy blogging!

Those 4 sections (overview, good, bad, and verdict) are pretty much what I use. Sometimes if I have a lot to say about a particular point, I add that as a heading. For instance, for a treat dispensing toy, I talk about best ways to clean it and suggestions for what to put in it in separate sections. At the end, I usually ask for their experiences if they have tried it and suggest that they can find it at (link) or (link) if they want to try it.
