Feedback, comments, and reviews

I found a quote and it made me think about how we react to feedback.

"If you want to conquer fear, don't sit at home and think about it, go out and get busy" Dale Carnegie

Ok, some may might ask how does it pertain to fear, if we fear how people think of us or when you get feedback we fear the end results.

How does it make you feel when you receive feedback or a comment? Good, excited, sense of being, sense of someone cares

Do you care how people think or react to your content or blog? I'm not going to lie, it makes me feel good to be liked. Sense of what you are going is worthwhile.

Here comes the fear part.

Think for a moment, does it ruin your day when someone posts something bad, or gives your a bad review or does it strength you.

What about good review? Does it motivate you help strengthen your belief that thing you are doing works?

Does it slow you down or speed you up?

These are more internal questions to ask yourself.

This might be easy to say but listen, don't let fear rob you of what you want to do.

In a prior blog, I talked about practice. The number one cure for fear, in my opinion, is Practice.

Practice being good at it.

If someone gives you a negative review or a bad review, turn it into a positive. Have empathy for that person. That person probably really miserable anyways. They probably have more fear than you have, but at least you can say you are trying, you are practiced, you stepped out of your comfort zone, you did something that most are willing to do, and you are fricking better than them anyways.

So, get out and do something today, tomorrow and the next day after that!! You got this!!

Thanks for reading.

FEAR ...False Evidence Appearing Real!!!!!
Great Post
tim

I like the quote. Thanks Tim!

Hi Jeff, I got a rather negative feedback review recently which completely threw me by surprise, as it was the very first out of all the ones I had gotten previously.

The person was quite expressive in their negative comments but did not offer any solutions or constructive advice...while I know it should not have impacted me as much as it it did you are right we all care about how our work is portrayed as everyone is our audience.

I challenged the reviewer but they insisted on sticking to their guns, again not offering anything in the way of a solution, given I'm still new to all of this and their profile suggested they have much more WA time "experience" than me.

I reached out to my mentor who offered me some fantastic tips and solutions on the aesthetics and I'm delighted to say I've switched things around a bit and am very happy with the progress I made even though it's still not finished...

I suppose my point to all of this is that feedback is important and how it is delivered is especially important and does impact us. We are all learning to the best of our own abilities so being torn down because there are differences of opinion is neither helpful or constructive.

I was able to turn it around to my advantage, but there might be some who might no be able to.

Thanks for sharing and sorry for the long-winded reply ;-) Jules

I am actually very happy with your response. Please don't be sorry. I am glad you made the adjustment. Look you got better from that. That's got to feel good.
Look at like this it made you stronger when others attack. Some may not be easy to brush off, but at least you did not quit.
Don't let anyone stop you from believing what you think is right.

Thanks Jeff, I'm usually very strong in my beliefs of just how wonderful and great I am ;-)

I sent text messages to people I know with my website address. I asked for comments. One person replied saying negatively about my website, basically a scam.

I will be honest it set me back a little. I did some research and created an article for my site based on his comments. I learned from him.

I alos decided, Okay, that's his opinion not mine and the other 2 million plus members of WA. I received some good site comments for the effort.

Don't let others steal your dream,
David

David, that awesome. It rob me for a long time. I learned as well to get better. IT felt good. I agree, don't let others steal your dream.

Right on Jeff - it’s always good to think about where comments are coming from and how you can learn from them as well as decide how much you want to let them affect you.

Exactly. They will affect you, and they can be hurtful. This is where you fight thru it, learn from it and get better.
