Are you ready to learn about digital twins, I found this while researching the other day and thought I would share it with you.

What is Matterport

Matterport deals with creating 3D digital replicas of real-world spaces, often called "digital twins".

Here's a breakdown of what it can do

• Matterport provides various capture options. You can use their professional Pro3 lidar camera or even your smartphone to scan a space. They also have a Capture Services team that can do it for you.
• The captured data is transformed into a 3D digital twin of the space. This can be a house, a high-rise office, or even a museum exhibit.
• They have a mobile app that allows you to capture spaces, view existing digital twins, and collaborate with others on them.
• These digital twins have various applications. You can create immersive virtual tours for real estate listings, remotely plan renovations, or even measure spaces accurately. Their AI can also extract data from the scans, like floor plans and measurements.

I found this by accident while researching the other day, and I thought I would share it with you in this post.

Matterport Guide

Here's a step-by-step guide on how to use Matterport, assuming you'll be capturing a space with their mobile app and a compatible phone

1. Download the Matterport Capture App, search for "Matterport Capture" on the App Store or Google Play, and download the app on your phone.
2. Create a Matterport Account, If you don't have one already, you'll need to create a free Matterport account at https://matterport.com/ This allows you to store and manage your scans.
3. Charge your Phone, Capturing a 3D space can take some time, so ensure your phone has a full charge before you begin.

Capturing the Space

1. Open the Matterport Capture App
2. Start a New Job, tap the "+" button on the bottom right corner to initiate a new scan project.
3. Provide Project Details (Optional). You can add a name and other relevant information about the space you're capturing at this stage.
4. Connect to your Matterport Camera (if applicable). If you're using a Matterport camera with your phone, follow the app's instructions to connect them via Wi-Fi.
5. Start Capturing: Tap the "Capture 3D Scan" button on the screen. The app will guide you through the scanning process.
6. Capture Location and Overlap. Hold your phone upright at an appropriate height (around shoulder level). Move slowly and steadily as the phone captures a 360-degree scan. Make sure there's a 5-8 feet (1.5-2.5 meters) overlap between your current scan and the previous one for better stitching in the final model.
7. Move to the Next Scan Point. Once the scan is complete, move to a new location within the space, maintaining a clear line of sight to the previous scan point and at least a 2-foot distance from walls for optimal capture.
8. Repeat Capturing. Continue capturing scans from various vantage points throughout the space, ensuring sufficient overlap between each scan.
9. Finalize the Capture. Once you've captured the entire space, preview your scans within the app to ensure everything looks good. You can delete or retake individual scans if needed.
10. Upload to Matterport Cloud. When satisfied, tap the "Upload" button in the app. The scans will be uploaded to Matterport's cloud for processing into a 3D model. This processing can take some time depending on the size and complexity of your capture.

Helpful Tips

• For a smooth virtual tour experience, plan how you'll move through the space while capturing scans, ensuring a logical flow from one scan point to the next.
• Shiny surfaces and people in the scan area can cause issues during processing. Try to keep them out of the frame when capturing scans.
• Maintain consistent lighting conditions throughout the capture process for optimal results. Avoid capturing in bright sunlight or extreme darkness.

By following these steps, you can capture a 3D space using the Matterport app. Once the processing is complete, you can access and manage your 3D model through your Matterport Cloud account.

Does Matterport Have an Affiliate Program?

Matterport currently doesn't offer a traditional affiliate program where you could earn commission by referring customers.

However, they do have a Channel Partner Program focused on resellers. This program is designed for companies interested in reselling Matterport's Pro2 and Pro3 cameras and subscription plans.
