From Idea to RV Slots: How I Built This in One Sitting
Last night I had one of those random sparks of inspiration — what if I could add a little game to my site, something fun for RVers that keeps with the whole “adventure” theme? The idea: a simple slot machine where you spin once a day and see what you get. No money, no gimmicks — just for fun, with a chance to discover some cool RV-related perks and gadgets, thanks to Amazon and affiliate links.
Here’s how I went from idea to working RV Slots game in about 4.5 hours:
Step 1: The Idea
It started with me scribbling down a quick to-do list. I wanted:
- A slot machine feel (three reels, spin button, daily limit).
- Realistic odds (not just constant winning or losing).
- A way to tie in affiliate links, coupons, and RV gear.
- Something clean and mobile-friendly that wouldn’t bog down my site.
Step 2: Mapping It Out
I made a short outline:
- Design the reels and spin button.
- Add win/lose logic (some spins should win, some shouldn’t).
- Include a “consolation prize” so even a losing spin links to something useful.
- Add local storage so the game remembers if you already spun today.
Step 3: Building the First Version
I started piecing together the HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. The first draft looked good, but I ran into some issues with the spin button not firing and the results not lining up with the reels. Took a bit of trial and error — test, adjust, test again.
Step 4: Fixing the Details
Here’s what I tweaked:
- Adjusted the odds so that about 65% of spins are “wins.”
- Built in a 1-spin, daily reset at midnight.
- Made sure every link opens in a new tab.
- Designed a consolation message: “Sorry, you lose. But as an RVer, you still win… check out this cool gadget.”
Step 5: Placement on the Site
Once it was working, I placed it just underneath the RV Command Center on my homepage. It looks clean, fits the theme, and it’s right where visitors can find it.
Step 6: The Time It Took
From first idea to hitting publish — about 4.5 hours. That included testing on desktop and mobile, fixing quirks, and swapping my hero image to a video along the way (because why not multitask, right?).
What I Got Done Today
I had nine things on my to-do list this morning on one of my actual days off from park operations. Ended up finishing three (two of which were on the list). This project took the bulk of my focus, but it was worth it — sometimes knocking out one big creative idea beats checking off a bunch of small ones.
Try It Out
The RV Slots game is now live on my site. You can find it right below the RV Command Center on the homepage.
Give it a spin (literally), and let me know what you think:
- Does it feel fun and smooth to use?
- Do the reels and results match up properly?
- What do you think of the new hero video while you’re there?
I’d love your feedback — your thoughts will help me keep improving it.

Great site. I enjoyed tip-toing around. I did not notice an area for the new RV'ers. It might be helpful to have a section for new to the fun people could learn the language. Have a few fun videos about how to mix and mingle in the RV world without getting in others space.
Just a place for fun social situations to offer a break from the reality of setting up camp every night and breaking camp every morning. Long stays and short stays.
The RV Slot is a great idea- and should work well for getting attention.

Welcome, Jeremy.
Going by what TheMagicBrad is saying, you might see if it can only be spun once per day period. Because I spun it when I went to check it out.

Does it work with a mobile phone?
I clicked the link (from my phone) but didn’t see anything that looked like a slot machine.
It works on mobile, but it has to be turned sideways I've found...
Still trying to understand that tweak.

In my free time I like to spend time with online slots, it’s a great way to relax and get away from the daily hustle and bustle. Recently came across an interesting site where the choice of games just huge https://flexy-spincasino.com/online-slots/ There you can try out different themes and styles of slots, and the interface is convenient and clear. It is particularly nice to be able to play both small bets and bigger ones, which makes the process even more fun and diverse.
