Should the government regulate Amazon?

The good the bad and the ugly in humanity

I always felt that the Government should have put restrictions on Amazon. Any individuals or companies should not be allowed to disrupt the infrastructure of the world economy as such. I think it is very dangerous to humanity as a whole. I believe limitation should apply to anyone who has no concept of morality, compassion, excessive greed and humility.

The great philosophers, economists and scientists in the past have envisioned that for a society to function properly, there should be an equal balance. Too much of anything is not in the best interest of anybody.

Mankind needs to learn from the past. Remember how many people who have died as result of one man's ambition to take over the whole world. We do not want history to repeat the past, we can attest to that.

In the case of Amazon, it takes the livelihoods of a lot of people away from them. I am not talking in a vacuum, I know what I am saying.

Let's Go Down Memory lane !

If you go to malls across America, chain stores that used to provide jobs for local people are no longer in business today. Mom and Pop stores that we grew up with are out of business right now. The remaining ones that are still standing no longer operate the way they used to anymore. They have fewer workers or some of the departments are completely whipped out.

Another example, post offices are struggling to stay open because Amazon and the internet are taking away their mailings and shipping business.

I can go on and on and on, the moral of the story is that everyone needs to survive in this world. When a big company has its hands on everything, it is not doing a favor to anybody.

When you cut people's food supplies, their ability to make a living, eventually you will suffer the same consequences.

If people have jobs and opportunities, they would be more likely to spend money and buy stuff. If a company is allowed to make that kind of money in a short amount of time while the whole world is fighting a pandemic and shutdown then I do not know what to call it.

Sudden interruption can create enormous imbalance in our society

Statistics suggest that there is a serious unfairness, and a great deal of inequality going on. The 24 billion dollars collected by Amazon should be distributed throughout the world for human causes.

Right at this moment, there are people who cannot find foods or basic needs to survive right here in the US. Can you imagine what the rest of the world is going through?

How much money do you need to take to Hell!!

How much money, how many cars, how much food, how many houses, how many vacations a person needs to have at a time in order to satisfy.

The gap between have and have not is widening at an alarming rate that the world has never seen before. This should be a wake up call to all of us. The need for re-calibration of the system navigation is eminent. The intended system drifts off course, therefore; it needs to be refreshed.

No more!

Corporate Social Responsibility - Self Regulation - contribution - obligation - ethical

If you ask most citizens what they want in life, you will be surprised to hear their answers. They simply want to be able to have a job, make a decent living to take care of their family and be healthy. In fact, most people are either comfortable with their lives or accept the environment that they are in. They don't at all want to be rich, be famous and lose touch with reality. They just want a bit of fairness, that is all!

Just a thought for the sake of humanity!

My thing is, you cannot be an expert in everything
Focus on 1 thing at a time

Thankfully, the Government can not regulate Amazon any more than it can any other large corporation.

Look at it from another viewpoint, how would you feel if the government were to start regulating your business as an affiliate marketer?

I feel that the government needs to do less regulating, and the people need to do more by utilizing a very wonderful weapon that we all have complete control of. This weapon is called "controlled spending".

If more people would support cottage industry and small business, then there would be zero funding to keep greedy corps in business.

We made Amazon what it is today, not by promoting their products, but by purchasing from them instead of local businesses.

In my opinion, keep the price the same across the board. I cannot tell you how many times some of the companies that I work with have to buy back the entire products from amazon, even though, they specifically told amazon not to sell their private label on their site. It is a no win situation.

But if they regulate that for one company, what's to stop them from regulating other aspects of a companies business practices (including ours)? It's a slippery slope, one that can lead to disaster if implemented.

little people like us as no saying.
we are already being regulated. We don't control the market do.
we just picking crumbs at the bottom of the table.

We may not control the market, but we can control our own spending to protest big business in our own ways. If more people were to do this, then there would be massive improvement.

I agree with you on that one

Can you imagine the uproar if the government tried to regulate a privately owned company??? Change happens. If we did not want malls or big box stores, we wouldn't go to them and put the mom and pop businesses out of businesses. That is the price we pay for progress. If you don't like a company, boycott it, picket it, write editorials about it but DON['T expect the government to regulate it. Because if the government can do that, they may start restricting YOUR freedoms and I'm sure you wouldn't like that.

Think about all the people who don't have a job as result of 1 man and 1 company alone. Do you ever wonder what happened to all these people and their families. What about focus on one and let the others handle the rest. Did you see what just about to happened, Amazon cannot handle the foot traffic, they just turned around and said that they are going to let fed ex handle the shipping and the mailing. They rather concentrate on other things. They should have thought about that.

But if the government can regulate THEM more, they can regulate YOU more. Want that?

What i am saying, let others make a living too.
Let put it this way, take a look at your paycheck every time you get pay, all these deductions are for what? may I ask, perhaps you are paying taxes for someone who is out of job.

I do not think they should be further regulated at this point.

They will self destruct. On one hand, they treat their affiliates bad. Yet at same time, I have seen a lot of ads where they are trying to hire new workers for distribution centers and warehouses. Yet, in the last month, I also read that many of those workers have been complaining about their work conditions.

I plan to just sit back and watch.

If you tell someone that the sky is the limit, then you advocate malfeasance without repercussions.

Thanks for sharing!

Mel

Thank you Mel
What do you think?

I think in general the govt regulates too much. No large company ever lasts forever especially if they forget about the people who count the most.

Mel

They let them put their hands on too many things. Control needs to be put in place for a reason. Big guys need to survive as well as the little guys.

Very true, Mel! Just like large empires--they get too big and unruly and then crumble to pieces under the weight!

Jeff

Amen Jeff!
