Adjusting my Niche

My initial niche was about 'Everything To Do With Living and Being Active Outdoors'. I thought it was a great idea but it turned out to be much too broad. I often felt like I was all over the place with my topics and at other times felt like I was really stretching it to find something to write about.

Add on top of that, the fact that I chose to do the Bootcamp and make a second website, this one about Making Money from Anywhere with Affiliate Marketing.

I realized it was a bit too much and the first site was struggling with some serious writer's block issues. But I created it not only because I love the niche, but also as motivation for me to get outdoors more. So I was too attached to just scrap it, even with it's issues.

I've already made the mistake of choosing two niches and two sites. I should have waited until I was able to quit my day job before adding a second website but I was too eager.

So rather than scrap, I'm narrowing the niche down on my initial site and I'm putting it more on 'back burner' status. I will write one quality post a week. Two if I'm lucky. Enough to keep it alive and keep the site trust growing. But the main effort will go into the other site for now, until I can do this as my full-time employment.

And my initial niche will now focus only on Outdoor Activities and Events in the Maritimes. These are the ones it's easiest for me to keep up with, as I would be doing them anyway. I've also found that the posts specific to local attractions seem to rank the best for me in Google so far.

Comments and advice are appreciated, as always.

I experienced that too. I'm so excited and I registered my domain not thinking first on what niche is. So now I'm getting stuck on what to write.

I would guess a lot of beginners are afraid to go too narrow, despite all of Kyle's warnings in the tutorials. I don't seem to be the only one who made this mistake. But it's never too late to improve, thankfully.

I understand your predicament, Jessica and I'm sure the changes you make will be good ones

Thank you Carol! :)

Well we are learn lesson in business and some things work and somethings dont. The good thing is that you know what you got to do to fix what you need to.

Thank you. Sometimes it's hard to admit something isn't working, but I couldnt avoid it. :)

You gotta do what you gotta do. There is a very real reason many people do not attempt more than one website at a time. It has to do, not only with being able to provide quality material on a timely basis but also about having time for the living, in this case, the outdoor living you want to do.

What about putting something about how to make money, while outdoors?

Interesting idea. I'm actually pretty attached to my second site as well though. I feel it's gotten the benefits of my practice on the first one. So I don't want to abandon it either, to merge the two.

I have only one website and I work a full time job and I find it hard to find the time to keep up with that one website. Kudos to you for trying to do 2 sites and work a full time job. I totally understand why you are doing what you are doing. Good luck!!

Thank you! It is definitely challenging at times. I definitely couldn't juggle all three forever since it's usually sleep I'm giving up to find the time. :)

You're not alone. I was trying an affiliate marketing site and another niche site. I've actually narrowed my focus down you one site which is about keeping a clean home while still having time to do the things you really enjoy. I'm a little OCD so I figure just go with it.

I think this is a common mistake, especially since WA has two great training streams and they both lend themselves to different niche choices.

I understand completely!!! The same thing happened to me! I just narrowed down my niche and am starting to pick up speed in the training while at the same time doing the Affiliate Boot camp. I keep bouncing back and forth between the two. It's great that you've recognized your niche was too broad and have narrowed it down. This will help you tremendously like it did for me. Wishing you the best!

Thank you! I already feel like it's easier choosing topics. I was really starting to wander all over the place with content!

Here is good advice Jessica!
