Good topic jchang, love it!! My primary security for my computer is Comodo. I have been using it for about 4 years now,There is a learning curve when using Comodo, I have been through the headaches this software has caused me but I have learned how to use it and I love it!! You must know what your doing when you use Comodo because it can give you plenty of headaches if you don't, its recommended for the advance user but I'm sure the Newbie can learn it like I have, you just have to have patience learning Comodo. its not a set it and forget it security system like many others, you can use it like that but you will be missing out on all its features if you don't modify its security settings to the way you like them and what works best for you.

What makes Comodo great that its free and there pro version is no different from the free version except the pro version offers remote access if you need it, the security suite is also very light on your computer, there firewall is top notch! no debate there in my opinion.

I also use Hitman Pro, Malwarebytes and CCleaner also, They all work well together and won't conflict with each other.

Malwarebytes and CCleaner free version are excellent!! I feel there's really no need to upgrade there. You will be satisfied with there performance.

Hitmanpro you have to pay for, its also an excellent product! they give you a 30 day free trial

Comodo Internet Security Pro 8 also gives you a 30 day free trial, but the free version is all you really need.

I am one of these know how to do it all Geeks when it comes to Computers/Software/Hardware/Electronics

This blog caught my attention because this is where my passion is at. I enjoy it and love to share my input on this discussion to my Wealthy Affiliate fellow members!!

To get there free version go to there website and move your mouse to the Home/Office tab and look for: Comodo Internet Security, That's it!

Note To My Peers: You will have top notch security on your computer when you use these all together with no slowdowns, they all are very lite! if you don't want to buy Hitman pro, you would be just fine using
Comodo, CCleaner and Malwarebytes together!!

Thanks for contributing. Good to know another techie guy here. Computer is also my passion and what i am good at. I am also self taught for most of the computer skills when it is not covered in the classroom. I hv tried comodo before and it has a learning curve. You are right to say that it is more for advance user. Back in those days there was another free and popular firewall and more user friendly than comodo but its no longer free.

Thanks for the reply jchang! Good to know we both have a passion for computers and that we both can help each other out in a Techie and Wealthy Affiliate way.....lol I am very picky on who I follow but your an exception for sure my friend. Love your blogs very educational!

Hi Joseph, these tools sound very interesting. I'm curious about a couple things. First, do these applications scan and search for viruses, malware and spyware on a scheduled routine? Second, are they compatible with other apps like Norton or do you need to disable Norton type applications? Thank you for sharing.

The free version of the Malwarebytes doesn't come with automatic scan scheduling. CCleaner doesn't have any scan scheduling. Both of these tools can co-exist with Norton.and other apps. So far, throughout my years of using them on various computers used by my customers, I haven't encountered any compatibility issues with other apps.

Sometime, removal of some nasty viruses, malwarebytes, spywares can be technical and usually not for lay-user to try. I uses several techniques to remove it, however, nowadays these bugs have became complex and the quickest way is to save all your data and format the hard disk, a tedious but effective way.

I understand cleaning your hard disk by formatting but what if the data you saved is corrupt. Then putting the data back on the formatted disc corrupts the disk again.

You have a point there. Usually, after re-installing the Windows, it'll be good to install a good anti-virus first, so that, when copying the data, the anti-virus will pick up. The best practice is to scan the backup data first before copying to the re-installed Windows computer. Copy or backup the data to a empty or new external hard disk, do not mix with existing data in the external hard disk.

Malwares usually doesn't infect the user data files, eg. word file, excel file. It is usually the viruses that creates the most damage on user data files.

This I can buy into but like you said, it is a deeper process than most lay people could manage. It's sad but it is getting to the point that to maintain a high level of security on our private systems we need to consider a VPN with a strong DMZ surrounded with a Kerberos encryption firewall system. But who can afford that?

I agree that excel files are pretty much exempt from viruses but word files can and do for make good beds for embedded viruses.

Yes, i agree. Viruses are the complicated bugs whereas malwares r easier to handle. Computer virus has evolved to such an extend it can now encrypt, a new virus about one to two years ago, your documents and you totally can't recover it. Security is now an expensive issue, so, we are very much forced to outsource and share resources or embrace cloud solutions.

I haven't worked with cloud systems too much. So I guess the "fear of the unknown" causes me to not trust the security too much. I put data out on the cloud that I can afford to get corrupted. Important documents I keep on my secure terra bit removable hard drive.

It's been good chatting with you Joseph.

It was nice chatting with you too. Thanks for contributing.

I actually had malware on my computer for several years without knowing, until i installed the program "Malwarebytes" which is free!

I am glad I can be of help.

Uh.. i was really just adding to the debate, mate...xD i haven't even followed the link you left. :P

No problem, at least it caught your attention and tis is wat we are learning in WA to draw traffic. Cheers.
