My site currently has 60 posts, and is over 6 months old. It's in the MMO niche, and I usually publish twice a week. I work full-time, so that's all I can really manage. Despit

Hi - unfortunately, the MMO niche is incredibly competitive, and while 60 posts sounds a lot, in reality, it's not. It can take hundreds of posts to see any big success in this niche. Perhaps you could ask for feedback just to ensure that you are on the right track. Have you read the post from Grace? She didn't see any success for 18 months.

Hi, Thanks for the reply. I haven't asked for feedback yet so I'll definitely check that out.

I didn't know it took so many posts! I expected things would pick up around the 40-50 post mark. So basically I shouldn't expect to see any/many good rankings until 100+ articles.

That post was helpful to read too. My review pages seem to do better than everything else, so I'll probably focus more on those.

Guess it's time to sit down and write more content.

hey hi Joe .... 60 posts in a MMO niche? ... nice step forward ...

as Brianna has pointed out, it's a high interest niche ... and the last count to get that needle to move positively, so to speak, we're looking at something like 300 or 400 posts to get rockin'!

in other words, if you love this niche, keep on and keep on going with engaging, quality, content to scale it upwards! ....

encourage you to keep at it .... all the very best .... :)

Hi, thanks for your reply. I didn't realise it took so many posts! I guess I'll just keep going then. Hopefully 2021 will be my year!

*** you're most welcome ... consistency and constancy are the key operative words here to scale your site further and upward ...

as it's been said: "Success usually comes to those who are too busy to be looking for it!"

encourage you to keep moving forward and you just might surprise yourself! ....

all the very best ... :) ***

Supposedly for that niche you need like 150 to 200 posts as it is that competitive

... hi Brianna ... yes, good point ... it's now requiring at least 300 and perhaps even 400 posts to get it rockin' ... all the best ... :)

Hey Joe,

That DOES sound an awful lot like the behaviour of bots... malicious script that messes with our analytics.

Goggle searching your question, I found forum discussions that MAY help you by answering your questions: https://support.google.com/webmasters/thread/7078666?hl=en

...and even a tutorial for you to review: https://www.cloudflare.com/learning/bots/what-is-bot-traffic/

Hope you find this helpful.

Hi Trish

Yes those are very helpful thanks!. By the sounds of it, the bots are not really doing any damage, they just skew the analytics data. I haven't had any more today, so hopefully it's just an isolated "attack".

If it starts happening often, I might look into a bot management tool, like the article suggests. I'd rather not mess around with any code that could break my site.

Hi Joe, I would have to agree with you on the aspect of your domain name choice, it is a exact match domain name, but if you think of, Nike, they didn't start out with " best running shoes ever .com ",

If you are in it for the long haul look at, creating that brandable, name. In terms of marketing it works.

On the second issue, 4 weeks in is too soon to start analyzing the footprint of your website.

It is the content that ranks or not, better to concentrate on the training and developing your skill set around creating keyword enriched content.

Days end that will define your websites penetration into your niche audience.

Hi Alex

Do you think I should change the domain name then?

There are sites like gamespot and eurogamer that aren't exact match domain names, but they are memorable, brandable names. Maybe I should be going for something like that?

I was happy with the name until I spoke to someone about it, who said that it wasn't very good. It made me worry that it will hurt my site in the long run.

I would rather just leave the domain as it is. I already transferred from a site rubix domain to this one, and don't really want the hassle again.

Hi - your site is only a month old and has 13 posts on it. It is far too early to expect any rankings. Start worrying about that after it has been up for 6 months and has 40 to 50 posts on it.

My biggest worry is that the domain name is too boring and generic, and not really a "brand" name. I was talking to someone about this and they said the domain name wasn't that good, that I needed something more interesting.

The effect on ranking was just something I was curious about. From what I've seen and heard the domain name doesn't have any impact on ranking, although I could be wrong? I'm not 100% sure on this.

I think I'm going to leave it alone.

Hi - as you say, its not brandable or catchy. However, each of your posts get ranked individually, based on their content, not the whole site so it shouldn't make any difference.

Ok, I might just leave it then. It does what it says and leaves room to branch off in different directions.

Thanks for the help.

As I was checking search console this morning I noticed there was finally some data in the queries section, and that I was ranking for 38 different keywords.

Hey Joseph,

It is my understanding that whenever you search like that you can do more harm to your site's ranking than good. You are better off checking your site's ranking in SEMrush.

Though it is less expensive to simply use tools like Google Analytics or the Site Kit by Google plugin to help you tweak your website to rank even better.

Increasing your website's targeted traffic will equal sales and once you start getting sales, your site is ranking better.

However, forcing Google to rank you for specific keywords is a lost cause as Google decides which sites rank for what keywords.

You may find Robert's words of wisdom very comforting: Hope you find this helpful.

Thanks for the tip, I wasn't aware that searching for my site could negatively impact the ranking. I'll try to avoid doing this in future.

It's probably because your site is still very new and not coming up in the first pages on Google. Mine is the same. All my content is indexed but won't show up in Google. I've been told once my site gets older, gets more traffic and has gained trust it will rank higher.

I hope this helps

All the best
Melissa

I'm just confused because according to search console I am ranking for several keywords, but when searching for them myself I still don't see my site anywhere.

From my understanding, everyone sees slightly different results when searching for things. Maybe my site is starting to appear for certain people under certain keywords, but not for me yet. That's the only explanation I can think of.

That's why I stopped searching for my keywords. I figure I'll let the Google gods figure it out and I'll just keep writing content lol no sense in driving ourselves crazy searching for keywords.
