The Record on Backlinks

Howdy People, I am trying to get some clarity on backlinks. I see a lot of people on other sites acclaiming the use of backlinks. But here on WA, I'm getting a different story. I was just curious to see if there was a good way to backlink vs a bad way to backlink or if backlinking in general is just no good.

In the last few updates, backlinking as a strategy has been so devalued as to be practically worthless. It's why even though K&C own Street Articles, Carson's definitive answer on this is: "Once you have one or two articles on Street Articles (or another directory), focus 100% on your website. You do not need to have a ton of articles these days as your website will rank very well as you begin to publish content on it regularly." It's certainly worth publishing a few articles and backlink to your site if it's new, otherwise don't bother, as Carson says, focus 100% on your site. :) Rich.
