Near the bottom of your profile page, there are several messages to you from Kyle and Carson addressing you as Joe. (That information would have come from your WA signup.) If you were to scroll down through other people's profiles, you would find similar messages.

While some of us use our first names as part of our user names, many members don't. Some people do sign off their postings with their first names but, again, many members don't.

Hi Joe. The reason people know your name is by looking at your profile page. If a person scrolls down, they can see how Kyle or Carson address you. :)

If you want to change your username, you can do that. You go into Account Settings (lower left corner) and then the next page will show your username and you can edit it to whatever you want. You are only allowed to do this one time ever, so be sure you get it the way you want it. :)
