Shopify stock drops $1.5B thanks to a lone blogger
This is the headline I read in one of my email early this morning. It doesn't seems good to me when reading the headline as I had just joined Shopify and intended to build an ecommerce store later, still researching the best approach on how to.
No, the article is Not a reverse psychology blog with a catchy headline and tells a different things. It is exactly what it headline says and the blog did bring shoplift stock to it knee.
Anyone who read the headline might feel discouraged if you are a shopify affiliate or ecommerce store vendor, more so if you are a shopify investor.
So what is your immediate reaction on the headline of this news email?
it is one of the four news articles on a news subscription received today. The other four is on Legoland, We work, Bloomberg and the last one about a watermelon man. What about the watermelon man? Something that I cannot comprehend. That will be a later blog if I am able to find out more.
The email article is more about shopify stock in the NYSE, interestingly, it says that out of 111 listed company mentioned by this blogger between 2001 to 2014, 90 experienced a long term drop on stock price. and Shopify stock dropped about 11% after the blog had posted with an estimated value of $1,5B.

So what is your immediate reaction on the headline of this news email? If you are shoplift affiliate or commerce store vendor?
Disbelieve, discourage, shrugg off as it does not affect you, or thinking someone is trying to tarnish your dream of becoming an online millionaire?
I always believe we MUST keep an open mind, seeing thing beyond its surface, change the way we see thing and we shall learn and rise against adversity.
It is interesting to learn that different people react to exactly the same article, blog or news or even comment on our WA platform differently. Same or similar comment to different person, you will get different response. Some take it as good advise to further their business, some see it as criticism that you are trying to block their progress.
So what is your immediate reaction on the headline of this news email?

Just for fun the SEC should step in and take a look at this. Seems to me this "blog" has a lot of influence. I'd have a look at who might be shorting these stocks and see if there is any connection to the blog owner.
On a separate note the Stock Market is historically over valued right now. In addition, there are a lot of crummy expensive stocks that have no business being priced a current valuations. So maybe Shopify had it coming and the blog writer has it correct.
See how easy it is to argue both sides. :-)

Good Analysis. William. But 90 out of 111 stock his blog mentioned drop. That show there is some correlation between his blog and the stock mentioned.
Stocks go up and down, currency rates go up and down .. there is not necessary any relationship between stock market price variations and business model viability. I look at theses two issues separately. So I have no reaction to that as a headline. Cheers, William.
Hi SK, extremely interesting post, thought provoking indeed. Imagine amassing a group of 20,000 subscribers, members who you built the strongest relationship with over time, members who trust you applicably. Imagine the social responsibility you would have because your words and opinions could influence the whole group to act in unison - Now that is power!

Like your email series, for the last 2 month I have been busy creating my own email series but still not too satisfy. Just completed the funnel from opt-in to confirmation page. One welcome email for subscribers. Next process is to refine the squeeze or landing page and add more email.

I saw this on Thursday, highlighted by a Shopify group I'm part of, with a link to Andrew Left's Bloomberg interview on his report.
My reaction was he had a point, and so I followed through to his website, then read some more on the man... and then thought it'd make a good blog post, so I wrote an article on it.
Beyond that I didn't really have an emotional response.
The blogger did have his point, as we are not Shopify investor it won't affect us much.
Just want to know how the person responds to it especially members who promote strongly on Shopify.
My reaction is like your post title, SK - what power this blogger wields, and what an opportunity for those of us that can blog!
Whatever else may be true about this person, those who follow the blog they write have so much trust of the advice in it that they are making multi-million dollar changes to stock value. That's very powerful. It inspires me to consider how I can build a following and influence them for change.
This could be very profitable and it could open up possibilities to change the world.

I wouldn't worry about what one blogger said. If the stock dropped that much today, it is a good time to buy that stock if you are into that because Shopify is not going away with how popular E-Commerce is today.
Exactly. Agree with your point. Stock Investment skill and knowledge is something that I am learning now.

Sometimes in life, things that we thought are very secure and established since this and that, abruptly a short-lived story. Remember Lehman Brothers' 160-odds year brought to its knees in 2008?
Remember our own Mayb***, in 2010 top 10 Banks in the world, then how their deposits almost emptied around 2015 and 2016 that up until now downsizing process and progress are ongoing, I am their ex for 13 years left a year earlier to another organization but my loved one still with them.
Yes, I care this situation, hahaha. For me, affiliate programs in e-commerce are not lacking like the first its started in the early days. I am surprised on how all over the world it is no longer about eBay, Amazon, or Shopify etc., even Lazada is opening their affiliate program.
Yes, it is all bad news if we are just about to start but with our watchful of eyes, still look at their sustainability before decided to move on from their program.
Like my whole life full of quick reshuffle, regeneration, adapt, evolve, open, reciprocate, counteract, and adept every strange transition (deep knowledge in football education but career evolve in general services to hospitality to banking to online marketing + enterprise), this helped me out of exhaustion and frustration after full struggle build everything then in few month all short-lived (with my earlier Clickbank affiliate melee).
Nevermind, it is just another affiliate platform, brother. You can find more others around us. Cheers!

I am not so worry if Shopify going down or tsock going down, I am think along the way Anothny and Steve are thinking, how can we build such a loyal followers to shake the world or at leats shake the online business world. :)))
