Hello Wealthy Affiliate family. I'm not sure if any of you know this or not but aside from doing my thang here at WA I'm also a content marketer. I enjoy it but sometimes writing researched content over and over (not only for my site here, but for clients as well) can be a bit of a grind.

Don't get me wrong. I wouldn't want to be doing anything else. But sometimes I miss doing creative writing like I used to. Just completely making something up from scratch.

I was in the middle of researching a post that I was going to put on LinkedIn about innovation. I was going about it the same old way I do any post. Reading over other posts and definitions, people also searched for, yadda yadda. Taking my notes synthesizing the information. Studying the SEO. Jaxxy. You guys are aware of how it goes.

Then it hit me. None of what I am doing in writing this post about innovation is producing anything innovative.

So, that's when I decided to go rogue. I trashed my notes and just started typing. I went back to my roots in creative writing and made up my own version of how innovation came about. This exercise in just letting go and abandoning the rules felt great and yielded the following short little story. I wanted to share it with you guys. So I hope you enjoy it, and let me know what you think.

Innovatis and the Marketeers: The Birth of Innovation.

Before this world was remarkable and robust it was drowning in mediocrity and unchangeableness. Uniformity pervaded down to the vibrations of each atom.

Every cog of every wheel fit and followed neatly in place, like the wheel in a rut behind the foot of the ox. For millennia nothing could become different. The world and it’s ways were stagnant.

The god Innovatis (In-nah-vuh-tus) spent his days blistering through the heavens. When he was young he caught a glimpse of a radiant ball of light. This light would dance and sing. It would change colors and shapes. It was always moving. Always evolving into something spectacular. He was infatuated. He found it to be endlessly entertaining. So, he followed it throughout the cosmos.

It showed him the most beautiful images he had ever seen. Prolific, unusual, and fertile images. Images of creation. So he decided to name it, Imagination.

Of all the gods, Innovatis was the only one who could truly see it. He was the only one that it revealed itself fully to. Every day they spent together was fresh and unprecedented. And in time, they fell in love.

Eventually they stumbled upon this world. Drab and fixed. They noticed how the people were devoid of excitement and reliably uncreative. No one wanted. But no one was satisfied. The monotony of their existence kept them from understanding that there was more to be attained. Their “happiness’ was nothing more than a bland acceptance.

The colorless antiquated gears of this world turned in their customary way. Unaware of being obsolete. The citizens habitually did their daily doings as if life itself were a moot point. Conversations were dreadfully simplistic and unsurprising. Like a cow chewing the cud. Not quite blissfully ignorant.

Innovatis and Imagination watched with compassion but without comprehension. They began to sing to them. They poured down to them their stories and songs about the universe. But, much like water from the tallest falls, it evaporated before it reached the bottom. Those below could not see. They could not hear. They still churned in constancy.

Innovatus and Imagination were devastated. They embraced each other and began to weep. This feeling was foreign to them. Sadness and tension. As they wept in each others arms their tears joined. The weight of these drops was enough so that they fell all the way to the earth.

The tears formed mesmerizing pools. Shimmering and iridescent.

They were so beautiful, some people broke from their trance. They drank from the pools and were filled with song. They felt an immense transformation. Suddenly they could see all the colors. They heard the voices and laughter of Innovation and Imagination. There was mutation, renewal, and...change.

They looked up into the heavens and smiled. “Who are you?” they pleaded. “What is this gift?” Innovatis and Imagination had not thought of what their offspring could be called. But after being told the names of the gods, the citizens decided on Innovation. It was the first idea in generations.

Innovatis pleaded with them to wake up their fellow citizens. He told them to spread this Innovation to every one they saw. Those who were specifically good at listening and communicating the beauties of Innovation to their fellow citizens he affectionately named, the Marketeers.

“We have given this world the gift of Innovation.” Innovatis told them.

“Not all will be able to see it. But if you, my Marketeers, listen to your brothers and sisters you will discover what they truly need, to become more than they are. Tell them this story, as only you can, so that they may see. You Marketeers will change them by connecting them to the experience of Innovation.”

And that it just what they did. Marketeers went out into the world listening to their country-men and country-women. Discovering the things that would change the way they feel. And graciously introducing them to Innovations that would break them from the bonds of sameness.

Thus spreading the story of Innovation, bringer of ideas to the world. The great catalyst of growth.

Well, a great post, thought out and presented very well. Very interesting thoughts on innovation!
Joe

It goes down to those who have the skills to bring out content in a better way even if the info is a recycle of other work. As we research we get our own views on top of other vies creating a work that is better than others.

Yes sir, I agree that when doing the research our own ideas come about, as far as creating original takes on whatever subject we write about. I just thought that it was interesting that I was writing about innovation while reading everyone else's thoughts about it. It hit me that I wasn't being very innovative. And I always enjoyed pure fiction. So I just wrote something completely original. I guess it was my way of venting creatively after a long stretch of trying to be professional.

You are amazing. And I like the way you think. You can do anything!

Hi, James an interesting take on innovation. I am not sure who said it, apparently, 30% of the content online is copied.

I guess that can go all the way down to ideas and reflections.

It is sad when platforms slide into that sameness or they start to lose their identity to be replaced with those Facebookisms.

Drilling down can indeed help marketers to find that original flow, well worth the effort.

Thank you for that creative reminder, James.
