Reading and Listening to Enhance my Writing skills

So after a week of writing every day (which of course I intend to nurture and grow), I've decided to spend the next 7 days with a focus on reading.

Reading for a warm up to writing. We gotta read to improve our writing, right?

I have to admit, I don't have a problem with coming up with ideas, but I do sometimes go off on tangents in my own world, with my own perspectives. Sometimes those ideas can get rather one-sided. After all, to reach an audience does require a little more listening and understanding about what is going on for them.

Do you have any reading suggestions?

I would love any suggestions! Whether its a post of your own, or someone else's... a website or on here at WA... something you feel is worthwhile reading.

My first source that I'm looking at right now is from Kyle's latest post, "You Can Know a Little and Still Be Smart." where he recommends to look at Google alerts. Great post with great ideas. That was the first time I've come across Google alerts, and I'm sure it will give me a lot more to read!

Happy reading everyone!

Jacquie

Great to see you are so enthusiastic Jacquie.
I agree about the balance that reading brings to the writing.

I also enjoyed Kyle's post the other day.

Best wishes and stay safe.

Thank you Gaz,
Yes, and balance is what I'm after.

Best wishes,

Jacquie

It's such a wonder that we all feel like encouraging our fellow WAers becoz thats what the community environment makes us do. Lovely.

Yes Aparna, the community environment is so great!

I love reading Jacquie and it is great for learning correct spelling as well as structure of sentences. I'd say go for a topic you love, I bought one of my favourite books in Spanish to learn with it and it's double effect, learning and pleasure :)
When I was learning English as a foreign language in my young years I also learned a lot from books, mainly crime stories. It's always best to read what you enjoy, in my opinion.

Thank you Lenka, I'm very impressed when people like you have command of more than one language!
And yes you're right, reading what is most enjoyable makes the most sense!

I'm just blessed that I love grammar (in all languages), most people hate it :) I always think about it as just something I was being given, like some people are good at maths, I'm good at languages.
I think reading improves writing skills tremendously so it's great you decided to read more.

I read a lot and I agree

Thanks Dorrie

I have no specific suggestions to give you. It all depends in what areas you want to improve. Me, right now I mostly read posts and books about social networks. It is true that it is a very good warm-up before taking action. The important thing is to always take action after learning something.

Ingrid

Oh yes, that's so true, thank you Ingrid!
